Meet James Bush | Educator, Author -Speaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with James Bush and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi James, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
One of my personal sayings is that “God gives us a cup full of talents, and when this life is over, I want to return him an empty cup because I left everything here on earth”. I often find that as children our dreams are unbound and aspirations have no barriers. But as we become “responsible” adults, we forget those many talents that made us smile for more practical and economical opportunities. Sometimes pursuing your dreams doesn’t mean that you have to abandon practicality. You can still be the favorite 3rd-grade teacher and then devote your weekend and summers to sharing your artistic talents. So often, we are bound by our job titles that we forget the other things we are great at, some of which can prove lucrative as passive income.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The Lizzie Porter Foundation’s mission is to reach African Americans and other minority groups with sickness prevention messages and tools, Health screening programs, educational material, advocacy opportunities, geriatric and elderly services, and patient referrals. We want to help urban communities and families achieve the highest attainable level of health through education, prevention, and political awareness. Recent political influences and mishandling of COVID-19 has forced my organization to deliver on its mission and philanthropic endeavors in more innovative ways. Thus to overcome these obstacles I’ve taken on a number of speaking engagements and panel discussions surrounding Healthcare leadership and the African American community. Additionally, speaking on the importance of civic engagement amongst the African American community.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If your visiting Atlant for the first time I’d recommend 1st stopping by the King Center to give reverence to Martin & Corretta Scott King. After a visit to the King center, I would have them stop by the APEX Museum. The museum is a small yet impactful look at the history of Auburn Ave and the Black Community of Atlanta. For lunch go by Sluty Vegan stand in line for 30min for a great burger, then to Sublime donut to curve the sweettooth. The following day’s I’d recommend a trip to the centennial park and see the Worl of Coke and Civil Rights Museum. Following that, a trip to Busy Bee Cafe and the AUC would be fun. Lastly, a trip to Virgils for happy hour and Magic City because, hey it’s Atlanta!

I’d like to give a big shoutout to Chinua Joi Ivey, founder of Ivey Media Agency a public relations, media, and consulting business located in Metro Atlanta. Joi, was instrumental in coaching and propelling my brand forward.
