We had the good fortune of connecting with Brett Bartel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brett, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My son was diagnosed with ADHD nearly five years ago. I have a background in nutritional health especially with regards to mental health and I knew that nutrition could have large impacts on mental health. My wife and I wanted to manage his ADHD with nutrition before looking to medication. I went to a nutrition store and bought all the vitamins, minerals, and lipids that I knew he needed, and before long, he was taking six or seven pills…which meant he wasn’t taking any. I’d wondered why there wasn’t one product that had all the nutrients that are commonly deficient with people with ADHD. So we decided to make one. This business was started to find a solution to help my son and other people who want to make nutrition a key therapy in their managing mental health.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Dietary supplements tend to get a bad rap, though much of it is deserved. There have been countless weight loss pills and other “solutions” for every conceivable condition. And nearly everyone has bought some pill will some promise and was disappointed. We understand that brain health is largely influenced by diet and nutrition and that is because nutrients are literally the tools the brain needs and uses to function properly. And not all nutrients are created equally. Some nutrients are in a form that body has to break down and metabolize, and others are in the active more bioavailable forms. Our goal at Fenix Health Science is to formulate products with the best ingredients in the most effective formulations so that they will actually provide support for our customers … just like it provided support for my son. Accentrate was formulated based off the scientific literature. Each ingredient in Accentrate has scientific support for its inclusion. It is gimmicky…it’s science.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It’s hard to say in times of Covid. Heirloom BBQ is my favorite BBQ and I usually introduce people to it when they visit. Elevation Chophouse at Cobb County International Airport has a fun vibe being next to the airport. The food is good, and they mix margarittas with liquid nitrogen…which is just fun to watch. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Jessica Bartel I have a background in science as well as development of dietary supplements, medical foods, and pharmaceuticals, I started Fenix Health Science with Andrew Rosenthal. He’s worked with me in the past in this industry and understands acquiring quality ingredients, logistics, and manufacturing. We created Accentrate, but it was Jessica that is the work horse behind Fenix Health Science. When Jessica joined Fenix, she took over managing customer service, marketing, and fulfillment. Our customers are kept happy due to her hard work and dedication to the company.
