We had the good fortune of connecting with Janelle Hawkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Janelle, how do you think about risk?
When I googled the definition of “Risk” several negative definitions associated with that word. I’m here to tell you that it’s complete false! Yes, you can possibly make a bad choice that can result in danger talking a risk but in business how can you not want to take that leap of faith. When I first started my business the risks scared me. Fear of the unknown, not knowing if my business would be successful and to top it off being labeled as a failure. My perspective now on risks is completely different. Risks challenge you, push you outside of your comfort zone. Risks help mold you into the creative genius we are all destined to be. Taking risks has played a major role in my career. If I didn’t take any risks then there would be no MAKEUPJUNKIEJAY. The risks of leaving my 9-5, learning how to build clientele, networking and the list goes on… I wouldn’t be successful without the risks I decided to take.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My name is Jay, I happened to be the Boss and lead artist at Junkie Studios. What sets Junkie Studios apart from others is the service and experience we provide to our clients. It’s important that my clients feel appreciated and comfortable all while being treated like royalty. How did I get where I am today? Easy, a lot of prayer! Definitely setting goals and holding myself accountable to achieving them. Also understanding that success isn’t a overnight process, it takes time so don’t rush the process. Wasn’t easy at all, especially in the middle of a pandemic but I overcame the challenges by adapting. Being patient and having faith that my business was going to be successful no matter what! While reading my story and learning about my brand I want the world to know that you can do anything if you try, put the work in and never give up! No matter how tough it may become, you keep going so when you reach a level of success or breakthrough you can share your story to someone else and help them along the way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
