Why did you pursue an artistic or creative career?

Artists and creatives face innumerable challenges given that their career path often doesn’t come with a playbook, a steady paycheck or any form of safety net. It’s definitely not easy and so we asked a few of the artists and creatives we admire to talk to us about why they chose to pursue an artistic or creative career.

I think it was inevitable. I was that classic toddler in the stroller, wriggling to get out so I could follow the energy around me. I wanted to dance when I heard music, or explore new things to understand them. I got in trouble as a kid for coloring all the animals rainbow and for improvising during my piano lessons. We e always been told to follow our heart growing up. Despite what is ideal, Despite what pays the bills, Despite what people say. For me music has always been an outlet. My source of peace and freedom. It’s given me a voice when life tries to silence me. Read more>>

I don’t think there’s another option for me. I struggle to focus on anything that isn’t a creative task or a project I’m passionate about. I was never driven in school and always struggled to focus in class, but I can spend days straight working on a new trick or learning about a new subject for a joke or bit. Read more>>

I taught to chase my dreams as a kid. It kept me dreaming, imagining what I could become. I always give thanks to my parents for allowing me to dream. I always knew I would be great, I started manifesting and i haven’t stop yet. Read more>>
