We had the good fortune of connecting with Satin Marche and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Satin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business stemmed from a place of root chakra imbalances; being in survival mode, always feeling like I was lacking in the financial area. I always tell people I had the best of both worlds. I watched both of my parents hustle, but their testimonies are different. Mother’s hustle came with a bit of a struggle & it was like that for a long time. On the other hand, I watched my father hustle until he went to prison. I was introduced to a “hustler” mentality at an early age because “if you aren’t hustlin’, you’re strugglin’.” I was tired of struggling, but I also was not fulfilled working for other people. While experiencing a struggle with my mother, seeing my father go to prison & struggling more than my peers in highschool & college, I was determined to figure it out. I tapped into different realms of creativity. I began modeling in 10th grade, I started my YouTube channel in college, I began getting crafty with my hands so I eventually started a business called “Sew. Stylish. Sache”. At some point, I outgrew Sew. Stylish. Sache & I transitioned into creating Divine 9 organization apparel for Fraternities & Sororities, all while still modeling in college. I was a full-time student & I worked 2 jobs, sometimes 3! Though my creativity evolved, I knew that was not my purpose. In 2016 I found myself depressed, feeling lost. I was experiencing an awakening; still in survival mode, but willing to take the neccesary steps to learn about myself on a soul level to get out of that dark space. I took a step away from all business ventures for almost 2 years. I was at a different college by this time, I eventually dropped out of college & months later, someone created a duplicate of our t-shirt design that I created in 2016, which is on our current apparel. I was convinced that it was time for me to get back into entrepreneurship. I spent months brainstorming. 2018 was the year of research & planting the seeds by implementing the knowledge. In 2019, I birthed Sacred Melanin. It has not been easy, but I Am fullfilled.

What should our readers know about your business?
Sacred Melanin helps Melanated beings become whole by helping them to align their Aritu or chakras so they can transition into a more wholistic lifestyle. I Am a Ra Seki Kemetic Reiki Practitioner as well as a dōTERRA Wellness Advocate. I use a variety of healing modalities within Sacred Melanin to help clients & customers achieve their goals such as sound therapy, herbal medicine, aromatherapy & more. Sacred Melanin’s products are only an addition to everything else that have to offer – a statement to “Innerstand your Melanin is Sacred, do all you can to protect it”. I studied Apparel Design in college so I have a background in fashion. Offering apparel has allowed me channel my inner stylist. What sets me apart is, I not only offer products & services, but I use my time, my energy & my creativity to teach about a multitude of things all relating back to Melanin, which is the Chemical Key to Black Greatness. Not many businesses teach about their offerings, they just offer the products & services. That is okay, but my mission is different. I Am here to T.L.C -Teach. Love. Create. I Am most proud of myself for sticking to that no matter how many revolutions Sacred Melanin & myself have experienced. Years ago, we didn’t identify ourselves as “creatives” to prove it, we just did it. Being creative, it was not always easy to stick to one thing or a few things. I wanted to do it all; whatever I dreamed about because I know I was & still Am creative enough to achieve it. I Am excited to see what other innovative ventures I dive into in the future. Where I Am in this present moment, I got here off the strength of faith & not fearing the leap. It was not easy, but I had to remember “faith over fear”. If it is not love, it is fear/ego. Fear is attracted just as easy as Love, but everyone has a choice. I overcame these challenges by being willing to rise to the occasion & choosing what worked best for me. I learned that nothing good comes out of fear. It kept me bound for years & I was ready to emerge from my cocoon. I attracted the tools & I utilized my resources along the way. I took lessons from all of my interactions & I applied whatever was necessary for me in those moments. A few lessons I learned along the way was “everything ain’t for everybody”. It may not be the fact that people don’t want to support you, it could just be the fact that they don’t resonate with it or they don’t get it & that is okay. “Support is not always monetary”. “What makes sense to me may not make sense to anyone else”. “Don’t expect anything, just create”. What I want the world to know about me & Sacred Melanin is, we are not a brand. We are synonymous & we are so much more than that. As I revolve, so does Sacred Melanin. Though it may appear to be one niche, I wear many crowns & everything flows into one vessel; Satin Marche.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I Am a spring/ summer kinda girl so I would for sure take them to Myriad Botanical Gardens in Oklahoma City. We would have lunch at Queen of Sheba Ethiopian Restaurant while we are there. Most of my friends are my reflections so I would order the Vegetarian Combination + the Vegetarian Sambusa (SO BOMB)! I would hit up all the black owned vegan/ vegetarian restaurants in the area over the course of time that we are there. I have a love for nature, so I would also take them to Bricktown OKC. Industrial-chic Bricktown is a lively entertainment district, with repurposed warehouse spaces home to restaurants, piano lounges and chic wine bars. An eclectic mix of shops sell clothing, home decor and specialty food items like gourmet condiments and handmade chocolate. They also have a Water Taxi for tours and dinner cruises. The views are amazing at night. The week will be full of nature, laughter, good food, abundant energy & love. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My tribe deserves more than a little credit. There are many “Sacred Souls” who have played a part in my Journey to Sacred Alignment. I have to start with God & My righteous Ancestars who have been guiding me throughout this journey. My parents for birthing this vessel & allowing me to guide them as they guide me. My siblings for loving me no matter where I Am on my journey. My tribe of sisters who may not have been there from the very beginning, but have witnessed so much in so little time. My supporters (they know who they are); whether I Am modeling, on YouTube or handling business for Sacred Melanin. Ra Sekhi Arts Temple for the education & the knowledge. My nieces & nephews who keep me young & inspired. Family. Family is everything. And lastly, my husband, lover & best friend who invests in me on a multitude of levels. The love I receive from these people is unfathomable & I Am eternally grateful! They have all helped me realize that I Am more than worthy of this kind of love.
