We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharon Artis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharon, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting Get Lit Candle Co. really came from my love for creating experiences that bring people joy and comfort. I wanted to make products that went beyond just smelling good—I wanted each candle and scent to tell a story, to spark a memory, or even feel like a little luxury in your everyday life. The cocktail-inspired concept came naturally because cocktails are all about flavor, celebration, and togetherness—things I wanted my candles and body products to embody. I also saw a need for scents that truly stand out—strong, unique, and authentic—so people could instantly connect with them. Starting Get Lit Candle Co. was my way of combining creativity, community, and self-care into something tangible that could light up someone’s home and mood.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career has been a mix of passion, persistence, and a whole lot of creativity. What sets me apart is that I don’t just make candles and body products—I create experiences. Every scent we pour at Get Lit Candle Co. is inspired by real cocktails, designed to spark a memory, a mood, or a vibe. I’m most proud of the fact that something I dreamed up as a fun idea has grown into a brand that people truly connect with and love bringing into their homes.

Getting here wasn’t easy. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced setbacks, financial hurdles, and the challenge of balancing business with everyday life. There were definitely moments where walking away would have been the easier choice, but instead I kept reminding myself why I started: to build something unique, to create opportunities, and to show my daughter what’s possible when you follow through on your vision. I overcame challenges by staying flexible, learning as I go, and leaning on the support of God, my family and community.

The biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way are to trust the process, stay authentic to your brand, and not be afraid to pivot when things don’t go as planned. Entrepreneurship is a marathon, not a sprint—and consistency really is the secret ingredient.

What I want the world to know about me and Get Lit Candle Co. is that we’re more than just candles and skincare. We’re about bringing joy, creating atmosphere, and helping people treat themselves in the little everyday moments. My story is about resilience, creativity, and community—and I hope it inspires others to believe in their own “crazy ideas” and run with them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many places in Atlanta, so that’s a tough one to answer. I live on the Eastside, so I tend to venture out a lot nearby work and home if I can. Although, if my bestie were in town I would make the exception and head ITP. We’re self-proclaimed foodies, so i would probably start at one of my favorite places, Marlow’s Northlake for Lemon Drop Martini’s and some apps.

Definitely stopping by Bite of Korea for their Soju Flights and Bulgogi Bowl. Then maybe head down to PCM, Atlantic Station to people watch and shop. Then off to Halidom Eatery, and working our way back to the Eastside I’d take them to Nostalgia for some drinks, and music for the mature crowd. I would most likely finish out their week here at Cherokee Rose in SMV for a little live entertainment and bourbon.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d definitely dedicate my shoutout to my family, especially my mom, who has always had my back no matter how wild my ideas might sound at first. She’s been my constant support system and cheerleader from day one. And of course, my daughter deserves huge credit—she’s the visionary and the voice of reason behind so many of my product ideas, names, and even branding looks. Whenever I throw something her way, she handles it with creativity and honesty, and that balance has been such a big part of shaping Get Lit Candle Co. into what it is today.
