We had the good fortune of connecting with Caitlin Stysly Emma Worricker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caitlin Stysly, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Before diving into the arts full-time, we were both in the public sector as a teacher and a nurse. Working face-to-face with students and patients taught us incredible people skills, but the high-pressure environment also made creativity our vital outlet. It was always there, bubbling under the surface, a way to imagine, play, and recharge. Now, it’s amazing to have that creative energy at the center of what we do.

That energy really came alive after hosting a Halloween party, where we transformed a plain space into a full haunted mansion. The thrill of bringing that vision to life unlocked something in us, and thus The Painted Sash Co. was born. Friends and family had long encouraged us to explore our creativity, but taking the leap to turn it into a career was both the scariest—and most rewarding—step we’ve ever taken.

What we love most is how fluid the business has become, it adapts and grows alongside us. At its heart, it’s still about art and storytelling, while fitting beautifully into family life. Each piece, whether a storefront mural, a helmet, or a celebratory banner, connects us to someone’s milestone or tradition, and that’s what makes this creative journey so fulfilling.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The Painted Sash Co. began as a window painting business for local shops and restaurants, and we’re still grateful to those early vendors who trusted us with their storefronts. From there, commissions for banners started coming in, which soon grew into a full-time focus.

We are traditional in our approach, no ai, no projected images and fonts, just hand sketched hand painted pieces. Every order a chance to channel creativity and design.

We’re always dreaming up new ways to create, and one spontaneous idea—filming ourselves painting a baseball helmet—turned into a viral sensation.

Over a million views, thousands of new followers, and our first wave of custom orders later, our helmets have hit fields from little leaguers in New Hampshire to Texas and even professional umpires in cosmic baseball leagues.

The momentum from banners and helmets has opened doors to sports pieces, event art, and large-scale event décor basically, anywhere creativity and color collide.

With Halloween creeping around the corner, we’re channeling that energy back into the community by entering two beloved scarecrow contests in historic Roswell and downtown Alpharetta. And looking ahead, we’re ready to dive into bespoke event installations and see where this colorful, slightly chaotic, always fun path takes us in 2026.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love wandering the BeltLine down to Krog Street and Ponce City Market. The art, music, and people you meet along the BeltLine feel like the truest representation of Atlanta to us—a beautiful blend of cultures coming together. And we never miss a stop at Bottwalla for a tikka naan roll!

In metro Atlanta, downtown Roswell is a favorite for its charm. We love hiking Vickery Falls and exploring the historic homes in the area. Taking our kids along makes it even more special—helping them see how history and art intertwine. Whether it’s bold street art, galleries at the High Museum, or stories told on the walls of old homes, we believe those visual reminders of the past are so important to keep alive, in order to create a brighter future.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We want to give a huge shoutout to our family and friends, who have been our loudest cheerleaders and the reason we felt brave enough to commit to this creative dream. Our children are always cheering us on and creating their own little masterpieces. And our husbands? They deserve medals for putting up with the never-ending piles of art supplies and the paint trails we somehow manage to leave everywhere, all while encouraging us to chase joy in our careers.

We’re just as grateful for every friend who has bought a banner, shared a post, or offered a kind word. In moments of doubt, it’s their encouragement that reminds us why we started and keeps us moving forward.
