We had the good fortune of connecting with Carlos Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carlos, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Both nature and nurture. Mi Abuelita was a top salesperson in Mexico, and my Tio founded a soccer league in 2003, that still runs today. As a kid I intuitively started to grasp arbitrage because of this—it’s basically one person leveraging a higher level of organization to save time.

My first “business” was buying ice popsicles, water, and Gatorade in bulk and reselling them at my uncle’s league when I was 11. At 15, my brother and I organized a summer soccer league in my city. Friends wanted to play without all the formalities, so we set it up. We figured out how much the rent, ref, and other materials would be and made a decent profit, even though that wasn’t really the goal. It really took off once I started posting video highlights; YouTube was still small, so I shared them on Facebook and the clips blew up. When summer ended, I went back to school and ended the tournament.

Although my parents weren’t/aren’t entrepreneurs, a lot of my extended family and friends were, and I always had a knack for it. The music I grew up on probably helped: artists like Jay-Z, Mac Miller, Nipsey Hussle, and Jeezy preached ownership and independence. That same spirit fuels what I’m building with 777Records777 and OM7—freeing artists from centralized platforms while giving fans a richer experience than the typical digital jukebox.

A lot of people start their own business with the hopes they make it out rich and that’s cool, but I had always seen starting my own business as an opportunity to be creative. Once the input costs are calculated, the rest of it is just having fun with how to solve the problem, which is the basis of branding.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I consider myself one of the greatest writers and producers of all time. This is something I am proud of and excited about because there’s further levels to explore and what I will do will inspire others. It was not easy but that’s what makes the music better. I didn’t understand this at first, sometimes it felt like I wasn’t supposed to be making music. Sometimes, it felt like I shouldn’t have even been alive that day. And then that day would pass. And then another. And I’d start working on music again. The systems of success (proper sleep, no alcohol, no smoking, exercise, gratitude) I built usually kept me within guardrails so I wouldn’t veer off too much from my journey but in the darkest depths, prayer would get me through those times. What I began to nothice though is that I would talk to god alot, but I wasn’t taking the time to really listen. So I started listening more, paying attention to myself, my body, my mind, my bad habits, my negative beliefs, others beliefs. Understanding that not every friend you make is a friend you can take with you on your way. And that’s okay. People’s opinions are mostly preferences, and that’s okay too. What’s important is care for yourself first, which sometimes is discipline, and sometimes is grace. Which is embodied by the main centerpieces of the brand. “Save Yourself”. “By Any Means Necessary”. “Get Up”. I try to share with people what I felt god gave/gives me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I work every day staring at 5 am and in bed by 10 pm, often times later if something is urgently due so I’m not really the best person to ask about thing happening in Atlanta. I will visit top restuarants when I get the chance since I’m also a big fan of cooking but the only ones I like are Marcel’s near GA Tech or Bar Vegan in Ponce City Market.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank God first. And secondly, anyone that is around me knows that they are vital to my success, but for privacy reasons I’d rather not disclose their names.
