We had the good fortune of connecting with PUR Bliss and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi PUR, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My business highlights the global influence of Black people on culinary culture, a legacy that has often been erased from history. This erasure extends to the food industry, where our contributions have gone unrecognized for generations. I also believe that the true experience of eating has been lost, with convenience taking priority over flavor and authenticity. My goal is to change that by bringing attention back to the richness of our culinary heritage.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
PUR’s Creole Eatery: A Love Letter to Our Culinary Roots

The mission of PUR’s Creole Eatery is to celebrate and showcase the powerful impact that melanated people have had on the culinary world. By definition, Creole refers to a mother tongue born from the contact of two languages, or the blending of Indigenous roots and European influences. And historically, every time we’re part of the mix, something beautiful is created—yet too often, we’re left out of the story when it’s time to give credit.

In today’s society, the expected “Black palate” is frequently filled with foods that are more life-draining than life-giving. And I hate to say it, but it feels like we’ve grown afraid of fruits and vegetables. As a kid from the ’90s, I watched the shift from home-cooked meals to microwave dinners. Now, as adults, many of us buy our collard greens pre-cut and washed, our garlic pre-chopped. There’s no judgment here—everything I’m saying is leading somewhere, I promise.

At PUR’s Creole Eatery (PCE), our goal is to reintroduce our community to a vibrant, delicious, and nourishing array of foods that should be on our plates. We’re committed to putting love back into soul food and reminding folks of the importance of being hands-on with one of our most sacred daily rituals: eating.

One of the things I’m most proud of is the response I get from people after they taste my food. They’re often surprised by how flavorful it is—and how healthy it tastes without sacrificing depth. It hasn’t always been easy to put into words what makes my approach different, but I’ve always known the feeling I wanted people to experience.

I stay away from soy and heavily processed meats, whether real or faux, which sometimes puts me at odds with society’s current ideas of “health food.” But I’m big on vegetables, bold on flavor, and intentional about quality. That means knowing where your ingredients come from, choosing consciously, and supporting ethical, local sources. Since day one, one of my guiding goals has been to build a farm-to-table, zero-waste business that supports the community and the planet.

What sets PCE apart is simple: intention. From our juices to our entrées, everything is crafted with love and purpose. I want every customer to feel that—because everyone deserves healthy, delicious food made with care.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my absolute favorite things to do is explore Black-owned businesses in Atlanta. The day has to start at a Black-owned coffee shop—we’re blessed to have so many gems around the city. There’s Black Dot Coffee in Lithonia, Black Coffee not too far from the West End, and LaRayia’s Bodega in Ponce City Market, just to name a few.

Once we’ve gotten our morning fix—whether it’s coffee or fresh juice—there are so many directions we can take, depending on the vibe. If we’re in a nature-loving, tree-hugging mood, then it’s the perfect time to explore some of my favorite outdoor spots like Cloudland Canyon, Roswell Mill, or Sweetwater Creek.

If the energy is more city-based, we can grab a little taste of home-style comfort at Mama Jane’s or soak in the ambiance and flavors at Bar Vegan. And if we’re feeling expressive, we definitely have to check out an open mic—maybe even hop on the mic and spit a lil something ourselves.

Or… if the mood is more low-key, we can swing by a local wine shop, head to my place, and I’ll cook up something delicious while we unwind and vibe out. Good food, good energy, and good company—that’s always the move.

Shoutout to my mother who has always been my biggest supporter. No matter how big my dream has been, she never made me feel like I didn’t have the capacity to reach it. She pushed me on days when I thought I wanted to give up. She motivated me and encouraged me on my darkest days. My success is hers. My accomplishments are hers. I am forever greatful to her
