Where are you from and how has it impacted you?

Even if you are from the same neighborhood as someone else, you might still be coming from different places. Where you are from is a complicated question and it elicits complicated, but interesting and thought-provoking responses. We’ve shared some of those responses below.

I (ButterKnife Haircuts) am from the Sag Harbor/East Hampton area of Long Island NY. I’ve always loved Hip Hop since I heard ‘Rapper’s Delight’ from The Sugarhill Gang being played at family functions. Growing up in Atlanta, I was surrounded by a rich cultural heritage and a community that emphasized the importance of family, education, and integrity. My parents unwavering support and guidance shaped me into the person I am today. They encouraged me to pursue my dreams and provided me with the tools and confidence to overcome any challenges that came my way. Growing up and/or living life for me has geographically been primarily in four states. Louisiana, California, Texas, and Georgia. I’ve either lived in or spent a sizable amount of time in these areas. Professionally, I’ve visited Washington, D.C. a lot with my government career, and I ended up developing a huge love and deep appreciation for the area. My down South impact produced a lot of social manners and formalities and hospitable behavior that permanently stick with me. It’s a lot of “political-correctness” that was instilled in me on how I interact with people and build relationships. California is a world of differences. Read More>>
