We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan Godbee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Morgan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always thrived when I have the freedom to create my own processes and collaborate directly with clients, rather than working within a traditional, structured work environment. After spending years in the film industry, I transitioned into a corporate 9-5 role, but it wasn’t long before I realized it wasn’t the right fit either. I remember the sense of relief I felt when I was laid off early last year—it was a little scary, but it gave me the push I needed to explore a new direction. By spring 2024, I had the idea to start my own business, The Sage Bee Media Consulting, but I didn’t act on it right away. With my background in film, video editing, production, and logistics, I was able to transition smoothly into social media and digital marketing.

It’s taken time to build confidence in myself and my work, but the journey has been a perfect fit for applying my skills while maintaining the creative freedom and flexibility I value. While my focus is currently on social media management and content creation, I’m excited to expand into production offerings, including longer-form content and brand ads, though I’m not quite there yet. Building a business from the ground up has been a gradual process, but I’m eager to see where it takes me!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Sage Bee Media Consulting is all about helping businesses create real, meaningful connections with their audiences. With my background in film and video production, I’ve been able to bring a unique touch to social media and digital marketing. We create content that feels authentic—whether it’s a polished corporate video or a more casual, on-the-go shoot with an iPhone. No matter the style, it’s all about making sure your content reflects who you are as a brand within your budget.

What sets us apart is our commitment to authenticity. In a world where social media can often feel fake or overproduced, we focus on keeping things real. I believe when your content feels genuine, it allows your audience to connect with you on a deeper level. It’s not just about getting likes or growing numbers, it’s about building lasting relationships with people who truly care about what you’re offering.

Starting Sage Bee in 2024 was a big leap for me, and it hasn’t always been easy. There have definitely been challenges along the way, from learning how to balance the creative side with the business/analytical side to building a client base. But through it all, I’ve learned the importance of perseverance, staying true to my values, and working with the right people. Every challenge has made me stronger, and I’m so grateful for the growth it’s brought.

As I continue to grow the business, I’m really excited about the opportunity to work with a team of people who share the same vision. Building a team has given me the bandwidth to expand the services we offer and engage with clients in a more meaningful way. What’s been most rewarding is that every relationship we have with our clients feels like a partnership. We’re here to help them tell their story in the most authentic way possible, and in turn, we get to help build connections that go beyond just the surface.

What I want people to know about Sage Bee is that we’re more than just a digital marketing company—we’re a team of passionate, creative people who genuinely care about helping our clients succeed. We’re here to help tell your story in a way that feels real, building lasting relationships and creating content that truly connects. At the end of the day, it’s about helping you be seen and heard in the most authentic way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First, we’d definitely head to East Atlanta Village. When I worked in the film industry, I was there all the time, and it quickly became my favorite spot. Between the cool bars, amazing restaurants, and just the overall fun vibe, it’s always a good time. We’d grab some lemon pepper wings at JR Crickets because they’re a must!

Next, we’d go to the Georgia Aquarium. I’ve had a few people visit just to see it, and I totally get why—it’s huge, beautiful, and their mission is really inspiring. Honestly, I could spend hours in there just soaking it all in.

We’d also hit up Fernbank. It’s not just a museum; it’s a place that feels like a little escape, like you’re surrounded by nature. The dinosaur exhibits are awesome, and the trails are great for a quiet walk. It’s the kind of place where you can just unwind and enjoy being outdoors.

Then we’d go to the zoo. It’s a nice, chill place to check out the animals and enjoy some fresh air. Plus, it’s a good spot to walk around and just relax.

Piedmont Park is another must-visit. When I lived in Atlanta, we went there all the time—it’s the perfect spot for people-watching, watching dogs run around, or just having a picnic with food from a nearby restaurant. It’s an oasis right in the city, and I love how peaceful it feels.

For a fun evening, we’d head to Park Tavern, especially when they have the ice rink set up. The atmosphere is so relaxed, and the view of the park is amazing. It’s a great place to grab a drink and hang out.

I’d also take them to Little Five Points. It’s such a unique neighborhood with lots of character— the quirky shops, street art, and great bars. It’s definitely a place with personality.

And if we’re feeling up for it, we could check out Ponce City Market. It’s a cool spot with shops, amazing variety of food, and even a rooftop with games and an amazing view of the city.

That’s how I’d spend a week in Atlanta—good food, fun activities, and the best spots to really get a feel for the city!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This is tough because so many people have helped me along the way, but if I had to pick three, first would be my friend and business guru, Diana Khatib. She taught me how to confidently find my voice and stand strong in male-dominated spaces. Next, the team at RobertKent Galleries—working with them really helped me gain confidence in my marketing skills. And last (but certainly not least), my partner, Russell. I’ve always been a risk taker, but it’s a lot easier when you have the right support. His belief in me has made all the difference in helping me take bold steps and chase new opportunities.
