Meet Miranda Lynch | Birth and Life Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Miranda Lynch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miranda, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
“Follow your passion and money will follow.” Passion does not guarantee financial success. Financial success is not reliant on passion. Finding a way to have both is rare and takes a lot of work. That has been one of the most empowering aspects of owning my own business; the ability to turn my passion into money and having both be my responsibility.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Oh man – my art is just the magnificence of other people. My photography is all about capturing life as it truly happens — the raw, beautiful, fleeting moments that make up our stories. As a birth and life photographer, I focus on the real and the organic: no flash, no sets, no stiff posing. Just natural light, genuine emotion, and the magic of real life unfolding. What sets me apart is that passion for authenticity. I don’t just take photos, I document real life. I want people to look at their photos and feel that moment all over again. I’m most proud of giving my clients images of times that pass so quickly and seeing their reactions when they see their photos for the first time. My brand is expressive, heartfelt, and deeply human and my hope is that through my work, people see not just pictures but the love, connection, and life in every frame.
My path to birth photography was a blending of two lifelong passions: storytelling and working with people in their homes as a caregiver. I went to film school, where I fell in love with cameras but fell out of love with the film industry. After that, I spent over a decade working closely with children and families, building deep connections and gaining a profound understanding of the beauty and complexity of those relationships. When I discovered birth photography, it felt like the perfect intersection of those experiences. It gave me a way to tell stories I felt passionate about while honoring the intimacy and strength of real life.
My brand has recently expanded to include what I like to call Life Photography. It’s all about documenting the quiet, everyday moments that shape our lives, the ones that might seem small but hold so much meaning. Whether it’s a peaceful morning spent gardening, the joy of bird watching, or the simple warmth of time spent with loved ones, I believe these moments deserve to be remembered just as much as the big milestones. I’m a nostalgic person and I find myself frequently reminiscing on moments or habits or times in my life that I have no photos of. So often these moments or habits or phases of life are what represents us as people.
I am so, so lucky to be witness to humans. It was a challenge, though, to get my business off the ground. I don’t offer studio shoots. I don’t do mini sessions. I don’t do model calls or events. There is a much smaller market for this type of photography and a much smaller audience. It is also a service that, once people hear about it, seems to be strongly and widely desired. The ticket to my success has been the core of my brand itself – people. Talking to people, meeting people, learning about people.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve lived here most of my life, and while the big attractions are great (I’m a sucker for the Georgia Aquarium and History Center), it’s the quieter, more unique spots that I love sharing. We’d take a stroll through Oakland Cemetery and grab high tea at Dr. Bombay’s Underwater Tearoom and maybe dinner and a show at Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse. For some time in nature, we’d walk through the Maid Trails in North Druid Hills or romp around in Briarlake Forest Park. And if we had time for a little getaway, we’d camp at Cloudland Canyon, one of my favorite places in the world. Various meals at Marlay House and anywhere on Buford Highway.
In this fantasy visit it’s Christmas because everything is better at Christmas.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The Tolkien quote, “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us,” has always resonated deeply with me. Throughout my life, my loved ones and mentors have echoed this sentiment in their own ways — encouraging me to take chances, trust my instincts, and build a life I’m proud of. Their support helped me see that the time we have is precious and limited, and the only real job we have is to live it fully and intentionally.
That belief was a huge part of why I started my own business. I didn’t want to wait for the “right” moment — I wanted to create something meaningful now. Stepping into this journey has been a way of honoring both that quote and the people who’ve inspired me, by choosing to spend my time doing work I love and telling stories that matter.
Also my cats – shoutout to Bruni and Bo!
