Meet Amber Thompson | Creative Entrepreneur & Educational Resource Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve always been a very creative person, from childhood. In high school, when I was exploring career paths I decided to go in a completely different direction and prepare to enter the medical field. Fast forward a couple years into college, I realized I didn’t enjoy the classes I was taking. And so I kind of had an epiphany and asked myself why am I doing this? I’m miserable. This doesn’t bring me joy or happiness and at that time I made the decision to follow my passions instead of following a typical plan of going to college, getting a 9-5 career. So since then, that was in 2019, I have worked for myself doing things that I love.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have dabbled in many types of creative work. I am one of those people that have a million interests and it can be hard for me to just choose one to focus on. I have created physical planner stickers, clip art and digital paper, fonts, logos, and now I’m an educational resource creator and classroom decor designer. The root of my business is creation. I just love to create things, many different things. And in my business I may pivot and pivot, because I’m constantly being inspired and have new ideas. I take the new ideas and run with it!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I really love the Alpharetta area. It’s definitely my go-to. I love to thrift as well, so if I were to create a full day of fun, I’d start with Starbucks coffee (duh), a trip to one or two goodwills, then hit the Avalon, stop at Anthropologie, Pottery Barn, Free People, just to name a few, and then end the day with California Pizza Kitchen or the Cheesecake Factory. You can never go wrong with the Cheesecake Factory, right?
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom and my grandmother always believed in me and said, “Amber you could make that” “Amber, you could sell that stuff”. I would say seeing other creative people having success is a huge encouragement to others wanting the same thing. When you see someone doing something, and doing it well, that you dreamed about, it’s a huge motivator. I always think, “if they can do it, then so can I” and that’s my take on it. I think a lot of creatives and artists can relate so much to having negative people in your life constantly ask and question your decisions and tell you that “you should just get a ‘real’ job” and they have zero faith in you or your capabilities. But at the end of the day, what matters the MOST is if you believe in yourself. If you truly believe in yourself, and have a vision, then you can conquer the world.
