Meet Revati Damle | Graphic Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Revati Damle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Revati, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Good design takes time! People often underestimate the efforts and thoughts a graphic designer puts in designing. Just because a design looks good, doesn’t mean it was a five-minute job. Graphic designers take time to research, ideate, concept and, execute. We try 100 different layouts/designs to make sure the design fits the target audience and the brand standards before we finalise one design. It takes years of experience, knowledge, understanding and research to come up with good graphic design.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have always been into art ever since my childhood. I learned Kathak (An Indian classical dance form) and excelled in it for about 12 years. When it came to choosing my career it was a no brainer. I wanted to do something in design. I did my BFA from Mumbai, India in Applied Arts. After graduating, I started working as a graphic designer before moving to Atlanta to do my MFA in graphic design and visual experience from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).
It has definitely not been a smooth road for me. I always suffered from imposter syndrome which made me feel that I wasn’t good and made me lose my confidence in my work. Over the years, I was blessed with amazing professors and colleagues who have helped me gain confidence and help me be the designer I am today. I have learned to harness my skills as a graphic designer and I often hone into them whenever I am designing. I am a very detail-oriented person which initially I thought was not the best quality but it always helps me in my career to produce quality work every time. I am graphic designer who loves to take inspiration from my Indian cultural roots. Design has always been my passion and a mode of expression. I love being detail-oriented and enjoy working on infographics, print publications, storyboarding, and digital and social media graphics.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The best place to start is the Coca-cola factory! It’s really an amazing place to learn the history of coca-cola, the various sensory experiences and the best part is you can try different flavors of soda from all around the world. Right besides coca-cola factory there is the olympic park, where you can see the olympic rings and relax for a while. The next stop would be ponce city market for sure. It has great shops, food places (good Indian food too) as well as the roof top is a great place to hang out with your friends. We would then end the day at Colony square by watching a movie, relaxing and some good vibes and food.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am personally thankful and very appreciative of my colleagues, professors, and of course my family. My family has been my pillar and supported me right from the start of my career. When I came to Atlanta my professors at SCAD were really amazing. I got a lot to learn from them and look at graphic design from a new perspective. My colleagues have always been super patient with me since I started my career and I learned to grow in my career with their guidance and support.
