We had the good fortune of connecting with Benn Jordan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Benn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I was young, I worked in a factory with my brother, Rolf. He and I would work long hours debating over the most respectable way to live life and put food on the table. Rolf would always tell me that starting a business was too risky, and I would argue that the real risk was wasting your best years working for another man’s business. In 1999, Rolf took his first vacation in his adult life and attended Woodstock 99′. He never returned home, but I felt a burning desire to prove him wrong. So here we are. Neither of us are in a factory.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I was a child, I used to religiously watch Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show and be in awe of the staff musicians playing the cool saxophone riffs and the funky versions of popular Aerosmith songs. That’s what I wanted to be and I wouldn’t take no for an answer.

My brother Rolf told me that it would never happen, and I suppose he was right. But I kept trying anyway. It’s funny how life turns out. Johnny Carsons has died and The Tonight Show is hosted by Jimmy Falcon. It’s a completely different vibe. It’s a similar thing with Saturday Night Live. But in all of those decades trying, I’ve earned millions of dollars and met my wife Penelope, who birthed my 3 children, Johnny, Jimmy, and Rolf.

The point is, sometimes the cruise ship of life winds up on another continent, and the natives on the new continent are even cooler than where you were trying to go.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have to admit that I’m a big fan of food trucks. They’re like ice cream trucks, but they don’t drive around and they have food instead.

One thing I’d recommend is wine tasting events at the zoo or aquarium at night. Where I come from, the Jiangsu province in China, the only zoo we have cages with large Tibetan Mastiff dogs painted to look like lions. So you can imagine my amazement the first time I got to see real animals at the Atlanta Zoo.

But I said out loud to my family, “do you know what would make this perfect? If I were wine tasting while looking at the animals, and if it were night time so I couldn’t see them as easily.”
Well, you’re not going to believe this, but this is possible and it’s called Sippin’ Safari, and it’s only $125 a ticket! Atlanta rules.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I respect those who have to make tough decisions, even when they’re unpopular or unethical. Justice Clarence Thomas is a great example, or maybe even Elon Musk. They may not be easily digestible or even factually correct, but they stick to their guns and push on. Without people like that in the world risking the liberty of others over a precedent, I might be less likely to take less tumultuous risks like snowboarding or margin trading.
