We had the good fortune of connecting with Sernesha Burston and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sernesha, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success would be to leave the legacy of being authentic. Uplifting others to embrace themselves, to love themselves, and be true to who they are. Not letting the world change them no matter how many challenges they go through! My motto is that “It’s not about what you go through but what you do after the trauma that’ll determine your FUTURE! ~Sernesha Burston
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am currently writing a powerful book that I feel everyone who has experienced trauma or someone who knows someone that has should read. In life , we have to pay bills and take care of our families. So, at times we neglect our destiny and our correct paths. If you’re not where you’re destined to be; it gets very challenging. I’ve overcome my challenges by reminding myself and others; this is all temporary. It’s not the end all be all; and nothing was promised to GOD’s children that this journey would be easy. I enjoy content creation, singing, writing, and acting. I’m just an overall entertaining influence. Very well versed and multi-talented. I’ve spent time working jobs just to get by; but I’ve put my faith in GOD. I’m on this journey will GOD to be what I am destined to be! You should do the same .
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would honestly take them to RedRoom on Buford hwy by Mr.Soul. There is no party like an Afro party. I am American but the best fun I’ve had was at an Afro party. Thanks to my Liberian friend Tennie who is now family for putting me on to the amazing culture.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out GOD number 1 because life would not be possible without him. I would also like to shout out my sister she was murdered when I was 16. Her death taught me to never change who I am destined to be even through the darkest times. I would like to shout out my mom for being a strong woman and carrying me in her womb. She’s taught me resilience and I get my strength from my mom. Shoutout to my offspring(present and possibly future) Of course Tee-Tee DMAN you’re amazing and finally Shoutout to ME for getting back up after every fall! We never fail in life; it’s all a learning process~Sernesha Burston
