We had the good fortune of connecting with Trey Seales and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trey, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Be you, be the best you can and strut it” – Betty Seales. That’s something my nana would always tell me. Growing up gay and confused, I had nowhere to turn. My nana was my motivation. She would tell me not to be afraid to express myself. Love myself first, and then I’ll learn to love everyone else. She always told me to be the best I can and show the world who I really am. Since my nana’s passing, I’ve held on to this saying of hers, and I want to let other people know it okay to express yourself and be you.
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets us apart is our motivation, the quality of our merch, and the uniqueness of each design layout. Sure, you might find the same saying on a Walmart shirt, but you won’t find the same quality for the price or the unique design anywhere else all in one. Recently, we’ve been asked to participate in NYFW, and we’re super stoked about that. its a lot of preparation for the upcoming year, getting the brand together and coming up with more ideas and designs. It definitely wasn’t easy getting here. I overcame a lot of obstacles. I was told that getting into the clothing industry would be hard and that I’d be competing with alot of other people just like me, I was told I’d be throwing money away trying to do something from scratch, the one thing that I was told that had me scared was “who will know your brand, or even trust to wear your things?” We overcame that by trying to stand apart from the “norm” fashion. Some of the lessons I’ve learned are to always keep your head up and fight for what you believe in. Noone else will have the same exact drea as you; they may be similar but definitely not the same! It’s up to you to push yourself to the fullest and achieve that dream, make it a reality. I want the world to know we are just two ordinary people who want to change the way fashion is shown. We want you to be able to express yourself by wearing our clothes, whether its a quirky saying, something that describes your lifestyle. or just something with an amazing design to lounge in.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend came to visit, the first place id take them is to the World of Coca-Cola. Exploring the cool artifacts and history behind Coca-Cola always gets me excited, especially since its right here in the heart of Atlanta. After that, wed probably grab a bite at Montana grill because I absolutely love the steaks they serve there. And for sure we’d have to check out Top golf during their trip. It’s one of my favorite activities here relaxing, fun, and a little competitive. Towards the end of the week, we’d definitely hit up six flags. It can be a bit hectic at times, but its always a blast and full of excitement. And to wrap up the visit, Id take them to some of my favorite local bars like blakes and X to catch one of the best drag shows Atlanta has to offer!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate this to my wonderful fiance, Aaron Chasteen. He’s been my backbone, my mentor, and a great partner in building our brand. Just like my nana, he has always shown interest in my business. He’s been there to help me come up with new ideas and designs that help ordinary people shine when wearing our clothes.
