We had the good fortune of connecting with Ron Guerrero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ron, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process of starting my own business started way back when I was in college at North Carolina A&T State University (Aggie Pride!) where I studied Business Marketing. I have a background in Sports, I played basketball and was known my younger teenage years for being a basketball player and as that didn’t work out due to me moving out of New York City where I was born and raised, I pivoted and said I would be into business and try to be as successful as it would take me to be. I just had to figure out what business I wanted to be in. During and after college I went into working but I always would only take jobs that had to do with client service or sales, and jobs that I had to conduct myself professionally and dress professionally, and as I took my journey through working I had the privilege to work in some great industries that would create the knowledge and experience for me to be effective today. I felt that I could go anywhere and just make money, but I wanted the job opportunities to give me more than just money, I wanted working knowledge and experience that would make me strong later on professionally when I go into business for myself. I have worked in Basic Customer Service, Retail Sales, Mortgage servicing, Insurance sales and Most recently Automotive Sales. This gave me the foundation I needed to now do what was in the back of my mind for a long time, I am now a Realtor with EXP Realty.
My experience has given me the professional business acumen and etiquette along with the knowledge, understanding and negotiation skills I need to be successful in this industry. I have a basic understanding of the key things a client needs when they buy a home, a mortgage and homeowner insurance, with me having the mortgage servicing experience and having once been licensed to sell Auto and home insurance along with also commercial business policies. I had the chance to work with some really great companies like Bank of America and Truist Bank. So my sum total of experience is now wrapped all into one area for me now as a Realtor. I say that because being a Realtor I have to understand my clients needs and wants and at the same time have the ability to negotiate those needs and wants, and at the same time have enough knowledge to have a basic conversation about the clients mortgage or homeowners insurance and know when to put a client with the right loan officer or insurance agent.
In addition to everything else another part of my thought process is freedom financially and socially and being able to make my own work schedule and having that control is major, but comes with a lot of discipline. So to sum it all up it’s all about Financial and social freedom along with having the opportunity to assist people with the biggest purchase or investment or sale they will ever make in their lives. Thats rewarding for me and I feel like it means so much to have that type of positive power along with my thoughts later on for philanthropic efforts as I build business.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Ok, so as I stated earlier I am a Realtor in the States of North Carolina and Georgia, I am very new to this business as I got licensed in February 2024 in the State of North Carolina and in April 2024 in the State of Georgia, and since I live here in Atlanta I primarily focus on the city of Atlanta, and the surrounding areas. Iam also certified to do business in Charlotte, The Greensboro/Winston Salem Triad area and the Raleigh/Durham Triangle area in North Carolina. I am with EXP Realty which is the #1 Real Estate brokerage in the country by sales volume currently, and I am very proud to have my affiliation with this company as an Independent Realtor especially because of the technological resources they have which allows me to serve multiple cities and States. I am very excited for the journey I am taking in this business, Getting licensed was tough because it is a lot of information on the education side of it but I got it done. Now currently I am ranked as one of the top 30 New Realtors with EXP Realty, which I achieved in October 2024, and have done over .5 Million in business which was my goal in my first 6 months as a Realtor as I learn the business and grow. In June 2024 I did my first Residential listing in Greensboro, NC and received an offer within an hour of listing it and after negotiation the deal went under contract in one business day and closed 3 weeks later. Thats when I knew this business was for me, and I got the chance to help a friend of my family out in the process. After that deal closed I knew that my journey to become a Realtor was not in vain. After that I got my first listing in Georgia and just organically obtained clients through either people I know or through my own marketing efforts without spending a dime on third party lead sources. I am very happy with how business has gone for me so far. Now, I am looking forward to 2025 as I plan to have a great year and close more deals, and assist more people using my natural skills, abilities and knowledge I obtain from my education and work experiences. which is the most rewarding thing for me.
What lessons I have learned in my journey? I was interested in Real Estate early on when I finished college, but I was thinking that I needed a bunch of money to get licensed and go into business, but I later found out that was not true when I did more research. I was an Automotive Sales Professional for 10 years and then one day I said to myself that I wanted more financial and social freedom and wanted to be in a profession where I am my own boss and make my own schedule. I got paid one of the base pay checks that they pay you in the car business just to sustain you until you receive your commission check, and I looked at it and said “It is time for change, it’s time to go after what I really want,” that day in February 2023 when I was working with Audi in Greensboro, NC I spent the whole check on my Real Estate Class enrollment at Jan Secor Real Estate School, and the rest is history. I would bring my laptop to work every day after that, and I was so diligently working on the laptop, the managers thought I was working on contacting clients, but what I was doing was Real Estate class online. (Laughs) In between I would greet a client and it turned in to a car deal, and by the way, at the end of that month I received Salesperson of the Month award for having the most sales. I finished the class in June 2023 and passed the State and National Test in August 2023 after the first attempt. This taught me that positive work ethic breeds results even when you are not trying to obtain results. I have learned to stay diligent and focused on what I want to do no matter what the circumstances are in my life. In my journey I have gone through ups and downs, but did not stop striving to achieve my goals. People will discourage you and tell you that you cannot do something because that is their reality, but when you don’t listen to the outside noise, and listen to positive messages, and stay dilligent no matter what, you will always achieve your goals.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is such a wonderful place with lots of places to eat and drink and enjoy lots of recreation, There are always so many options. If it’s a week long trip I would start with the Battery where the Atlanta Braves play and visit and take in some food and drink, or go to an Atlanta Hawks or Falcons game on Monday. Tuesday I would visit Atlantic Station and do Taco Tuesday at Azotea Cantina, have a drink and some food, and do some shopping Then hit another lounge or bar. Wednesday we would probably take a visit to Lenox Mall, And Phipps Plaza or the Atlanta Beltline, then take a visit to Spaceman on top of the Hyatt Centric Hotel, where a promoter by the name of Southside Ken does a very classy evening event with a DJ, and nice views of the city while you have a bite to eat or have a drink. Thursday we would be a rest for them, then we pick up Friday evening definitely would take a visit to Steak Market, very classy atmosphere, then Apt.4B Restaurant & Lounge. Saturday would have so many options it’s unbelievable, but we definitely would take a visit to Copper Cove. Sunday we would definitely have brunch at Toast on Lenox then go to Whiskey Mistress, one of my favorite spots. These places I feel really show how classy the city of Atlanta can be. Definitely a place where if you are a professional and want to have a great social life with endless options to take advantage of this is the place. It gives you even more incentive to go out and work hard at your profession. I absolutely love this city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Anyone who has ever stuck by me in my journey or helped me in any way, I want to thank them. They know exactly who they are. I love and appreciate you.
