We had the good fortune of connecting with Gina Boykin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gina, how does your business help the community?
I started Live Music Junkiez to have a bigger platform for doing what I was already doing – encouraging people to see live music. I personally discover incredible talent on a regular basis and it brings me joy to share that experience with others.
I guess you can say we help our community have more fun! They find talented new artists and exciting events they hadn’t heard of before. We also help musicians, who just want to be heard and seen, get more people listening to their music and attending their shows, which means busier nights for local venues. Sounds like a win-win-win to me!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Live Music Junkiez started from my own struggles to find live music locally. Most people know when their favorite radio stars are coming to town, but what about discovering new artists? I also like going to low-key spots (restaurants, bars and smaller venues) and listening to emerging musicians, of all genres. I was craving more experiences like this, but wasn’t sure how to find them without some serious research, and who has the time for that every week? The more I thought about it, the more I realized that there are other people like me who want to see live music but don’t know where to go, or think good music requires going to an arena and spending a fortune.
I started Live Music Junkiez by promoting all the free live music events I could find. The platform has since grown to showcase more than 200 free and inexpensive live music events a week! It’s been an amazing ride so far, and I’m looking forward to the future! The music industry is not my background, so I’ve been learning a lot about the industry and social media as well. I am grateful for people along the way that have invested in me and encouraged me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, they are definitely going to a concert (or two) or a festival with me – that’s a no brainer! We would check out happy hour (I love a good deal) and if they are a nature lover, hike one of Atlanta’s beautiful trails. The fact that we are a big city with waterfalls and a bamboo forest less than 30 minutes away is one of the reasons I love it here!
Also, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights and World of Coca-Cola are a must-see for someone who’s never been to Atlanta so that’ll probably be on the itinerary.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely my family foremost – always supportive and encouraging. Also, I’d like to shoutout Heather Monahan, a nationally recognized speaker, author and podcast host – she continually helps me grow in confidence and business acumen on a daily basis.
