We had the good fortune of connecting with Eslin Simon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eslin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business was something that came naturally to me, rooted deeply in my love for cooking, which began at a very young age. I remember being just 3 years old, sitting quietly in the corner of my grandmother’s kitchen, watching her cook with such care and love while my siblings and cousins played outside. The warmth of the kitchen, the aromas, and the joy of seeing her prepare meals for our large extended household brought me so much comfort. I was captivated by how she could create something that brought everyone together.
By the age of 8, I was inspired to try cooking on my own. I prepared my first full dinner for my parents and siblings. To this day, my siblings still believe that my mother was behind the meal because it was so good—but it was all me! That moment solidified my passion, and throughout my life, I’ve continued to make food that not only tastes great but brings people joy.
As an adult, I’ve prepared meals for family gatherings, holidays, and celebrations, and every single time, my friends and family would tell me, “You really should start catering.” Even though I’ve earned a Master’s Degree in Public Health and work as a Health and Wellness Supervisor, cooking has always remained a constant part of my life. It’s my way of expressing love, comfort, and care.
As a mother of two and a wife, I love adding my personal touch to events. This catering business allows me to do what I love most—bring people together I don’t just provide food; I create an experience. Every catering event I take on is filled with pride, passion, and attention to detail. I want my clients to feel the joy and warmth that I felt in my grandmother’s kitchen, and most of all, I want to be part of your celebrations by offering food that makes your moments even more special.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In addition to my love for cooking, I’ve built a professional life centered around health and wellness. I hold a Master’s Degree in Public Health and currently work as a Health and Wellness Supervisor at a non-profit organization. Despite the demands of my career, cooking has always been my constant, which led me to start Thyme N Passion Catering LLC, certified in food handler preparation by ANAB. For me, this journey is about more than just food—it’s my way of expressing love, comfort, and care to those I serve.
Starting my business has been a challenge. Although I’m confident in my service, I’m naturally shy and quiet, and doing business in today’s social media-driven world has been a real stretch for me. I’m reserved, and promoting myself isn’t something that comes easily. But I have to thank my amazing sister, Deneise, who has taken on the role of my Media and Communication Personnel. Her creativity and insight have given me the push I needed to reach a wider audience. Catering is hard work, and it requires true dedication and commitment, but I’m grateful for the journey. I’m still learning a lot from other popular food vloggers and influencers, and I’m excited to keep growing.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my friends visits, I always like to start things off right with a home-cooked meal from my kitchen—there’s something special about sharing a meal that I’ve prepared with love. It’s the perfect way to welcome them and set the tone for the trip. Afterward, we’d dive into some of the best that the city has to offer.
One must-visit spot is Capital Grille for a fine dining experience—there’s nothing like enjoying a perfectly cooked steak and elegant atmosphere. For a more diverse culinary experience, we’d explore some local gems that offer authentic cuisines from different cultures. The food scene here is amazing, and I love introducing my guests to new flavors.
During the week, we’d definitely check out the Georgia Aquarium, which is one of my favorite spots to relax and take in the incredible marine life. It’s always a hit with visitors! For some added excitement, I’d plan an afternoon at one of the many escape rooms around town—such a fun way to challenge ourselves and have a few laughs.
It’d be a mix of great food, a bit of adventure, and time spent enjoying the best parts of the city. Each day would be filled with good vibes and memorable experiences!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I absolutely have to give a huge shout-out to my grandmother, parents, husband, kids, and siblings. They are the biggest supporters behind my business, and I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without their love and encouragement. My grandmother was the one who first ignited my passion for cooking, and my parents always believed in me and pushed me to follow my dreams. My husband and kids are my constant motivation—they’re my biggest cheerleaders, always rooting for me even on the busiest days. My siblings have been there for me every step of the way, offering their time, ideas, and support. Each of them plays a significant role in my business, and I just want them to know how much I appreciate and love them deeply. They are my foundation, and everything I do is a reflection of the love and support they’ve poured into me.
