We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaybee Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi JayBee, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Atlanta Select has always been about supporting the community in various ways needed. We have taken pride in working with a combination of “At Risk” and “More Fortunate” kids together. We use the game of basketball to allow children to meet and befriend one another from different background to Synergize to achieve a common goal. Dedicating our time and ultimately our lives to the kids of the community, has become a way of life for our coaches. Mentoring our youth during and after their time with us is something we have taken pride in cultivating our entire organization, in order for our alum to feel comfortable to come back and engage with the program.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Unbelievably, I have been coaching basketball for 17 years on the AAU circuit, High School, and on the Professional level. This journey was not and is not easy at all. Me not originating from Georgia I had to build my name, brand, and reputation on my own with only my WERK to show for it. I did not ask any of my celebrity friends for help nor sponsorship, however if they offered, I definitely accepted the donation of any sort. The only way I overcame my challenges was to continue playing against the best, being heard, and producing great products. Every day is never the same which lead to life lessons being learned every single day. I would love for people to know to stay consistent, do not grow weary in doing the right thing, and keep the main thing the main thing!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would go to various sporting events, sports clubs, and a few places that I visit frequently. I love to cook at home and my friends love my food, therefore cooking at home would be something that would be equated in our itinerary. Roc South, Toast on Lennox, and Southern King Delight are a few restaurants that is a must we visit with any of my friends that come into town. It’s very hard to put together a general itinerary for my circle of very diversified set of friends I have.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to extend my upmost appreciation to Coach George Ziegler and Coach Tony Hill for entrusting me in keeping the integrity of the Atlanta Select Youth Organization. My “Right-hand Man” Coach Dwayne Hall and big bro Coach Curtis Houlder, I am greatly appreciative for everything that you all have helped me and will continue to help me with along the way of taking over the organization. My past coaches Fredia Johnson, Oby Franklin, Jason George, and Carlos Sample. Last but not least, huge Thank You to Coach Anthony Edwards for instilling so much wisdom into steering my passions in the right directions.
