We had the good fortune of connecting with Jhade Hayes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jhade, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My work life balance over time has changed TREMENDOUSLY. I went from being that student athlete who played basketball 24/7, to becoming a brand owner who travels to different National Skate Party’s to sell merch. My schedule with my brand is very very busy. My streetwear clothing brand is very popular in the skate world, so I try to cater to them by traveling to all the National Skate Party’s located places like California, Houston, Jersey , St. Louis and several other palaces in the past couple months. These party’s are normally from Thursday-Monday if I am driving or flying then coming straight off the road to still have to ship out almost 100 orders a week is very tiring. So having to deal with that busy schedule and still make time for other non business related activities, you have to stay very disciplined and make sure you are staying ahead of schedule. I try to plan at least a month in advance, use reminders in my phone and planners to stay organized.

What should our readers know about your business?
The name of my business is Fly N Discreet. It was started almost 3 years ago and has a HUGE influence in the Skate World. My brand was started in my college dorm when I was getting my Masters. It was never something that I thought I was going to take serious, more of a hobby and something just to do. My clothing line started getting more popular around the same time my dad passed away which was 2 years ago. I have never lost anyone close in my family so for my dad to pass out of nowhere and still try to run a business, it was VERY challenging. Even though it was tough to overcome I always used him and my mother as motivation to get me where I am today.

A huge reason I am where I am today is because of the Skate World. I just started skating when Covid hit and at first it was just a hobby. Then when I brought my clothing line to the Skate World, I noticed how much it was taking off and skaters enjoyed wearing my merch. Overtime my brand has grown and just this past year I went on a Tour visiting cities like St.Louis, Houston, Dallas, New Jersey, Detroit, Tennessee, Miami ,Orland and several other places selling my merch. The fact that my brand is a popular Streetwear brand and Skating brand is what makes my brand slightly unique.

What I want the world to know is that ANYONE can do it. You have to stay consistent to your goals that you want to achieve and the biggest thing is be real with your self. You can’t achieve or get anywhere you want to get without holding yourself accountable.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The places I would take them is of course the skating rink, depending on their vibe is different rinks. If you want to have a chill night I would say Atlantic Station, Belt line or Piedmont Park. If you want to have a lit time but not clubby Madhouse, or this hole in the wall club called Marlenes. Marlenes has the best line dancing and best drink sales.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This dedication can go out to my Mom. My mom has been through so much in these past couple years, but she still keeps fighting . It is like motivation, if she isn’t giving up then I have no business giving up either.
