We had the good fortune of connecting with Marchell Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marchell, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I can’t say that starting my business was a deliberate, well-laid-out plan! The journey began several months ago when I unexpectedly lost a contract that I had been working on for two years. Faced with the sudden loss of income, I plunged into the job market, hoping to secure a new position quickly. Despite my best efforts in revamping my resume and creating a comprehensive portfolio, I was met with a barrage of rejections. Each rejection felt like a setback, contributing to a period of profound disappointment. During this challenging time, I decided to take a step back from the relentless job hunt and focus on my existing interests. I was already selling skincare products for Beautycounter and had a burgeoning passion for fashion. Immersing myself in these activities provided a respite and rekindled my enthusiasm for doing what I loved.
In the midst of this soul-searching phase, an unexpected opportunity came my way: a chance to work as a personal assistant. Given my extensive background as a C-suite assistant in the corporate world, I felt confident that this could be a smooth transition, though it wasn’t exactly what I had envisioned for myself. Nonetheless, I took the job, seeing it as a temporary steppingstone.
Surprisingly, this role turned out to be a pivotal moment. A few months into this position, more personal assistant opportunities began to surface, seemingly out of nowhere. These opportunities aligned perfectly with my strengths and interests, especially in project-based and task-oriented work, which I thoroughly enjoy.
As these opportunities continued to present themselves almost effortlessly, I realized that something significant was unfolding. What started as a stop-gap measure evolved into a flourishing venture. I began to recognize a demand for my skills and the potential to create something sustainable. It was a natural progression, and before I knew it, *Perfect Solutions, LLC* was born.
In retrospect, it wasn’t a meticulously crafted plan but rather a series of serendipitous events and a willingness to adapt that led to the founding of my company. Embracing my interests and leveraging my expertise allowed me to transform a period of uncertainty into a thriving business. Perfect Solutions now stands as a testament to resilience, adaptation, and the unexpected paths that can lead to profound professional fulfillment.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Perfected Solutions, LLC, is a boutique company that offers administrative support services for all professions. It all began when I took an opportunity to work with an author and motivational speaker. My initial responsibilities included crafting pitches, creating press releases, helping set up events, booking her engagements, providing onsite event support, and managing a schedule. Given my background in building relationships and project-based work, I found the experience both fun and enriching. I quickly learned a variety of new skills—skills I never had before, like curating press releases and crafting pitches. Initially, I felt overwhelmed by the thought of diving into a new industry, but I would draft something and then refine it using AI tools or Grammarly to make it polished and professional. Over time, I began to really enjoy the work.
Though working with different personalities can be challenging, especially when trying to figure out how each person prefers to work, I’ve found that flexibility and adaptability are key. It might take a few weeks to find a good rhythm, but the people I’ve worked with have been amazing. This is the part I love most—helping people succeed by streamlining their responsibilities, thus giving them more time to focus on their vision and goals.
Helping others has always been a passion of mine, and this business truly aligns with that passion. What sets Perfected Solutions apart from other administrative firms is our approach to building partnerships and collaborating with professionals, rather than just offering a service.
When we collaborate, we become aware of the overall goals and vision of our clients, which allows us to execute tasks with greater intent and purpose. By working together, we can help achieve overarching goals rather than merely completing individual tasks. At Perfected Solutions, we are committed to ensuring that our partnerships foster success and allow clients to focus more on what they love, while we handle the rest.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
OMG, there would be so much to do! LOL! Given my newfound love for the outdoors, most of our stops would be outside.
1. **Atlanta Beltline**: We’d kick things off with some bike riding through Piedmont Park and midtown and enjoy a meal along the Beltline.
2. **Virginia Highlands**: I love this area. We’d visit Barcelona Wine Bar for a tapas and wine and then check out the little wine shop for a tasting across the street.
3. **LOA Rooftop**: We’d spend some time lounging by the pool, sipping drinks, and taking in the stunning views.
4. **Treat Your Feet Buckhead**: A relaxing massage here would be a must.
5. **Botanical Gardens**: We’d take a stroll through these absolutely gorgeous gardens.
6. **Dahlonega**: I’d plan a trip to the mountains for a winery tour.
7. **Atlantic Station**: We’d wrap up with shopping and drinks at the Rose Champagne Bar.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It’s hard to single out just one person when my support system has been incredibly solid and multifaceted. However, if there is one person who truly deserves a special shoutout and an endless stream of gratitude, it is my husband. I spent a long time struggling to pinpoint my true passion and figure out what I “should be” doing with my life. During those years of exploration and uncertainty, I’ve experienced seasons of remarkable success, periods of frustrating stagnation, and, inevitably, moments where I felt like an outright failure. Through all these highs and lows, my husband has been a constant pillar of strength and encouragement.
He has stood by me, unwavering, supporting every endeavor I have pursued. Whether I was chasing a fleeting interest or committed to a long-term project, he never once doubted me. In fact, he is truly my biggest—and perhaps only—fan, always cheering me on with a genuine enthusiasm that sometimes felt greater than my own. His belief in me was steadfast, even during those times when I could barely muster any belief in myself.
Looking back, I am struck by how much he has invested in me, not just emotionally but also in practical, day-to-day terms. He has always made it his mission to fill me with positivity and optimism—qualities that often seemed just out of my reach. In times when I felt overwhelmed or defeated, his affirmations would serve as a lifeline, pulling me back to a place of hope and renewed determination.
Moreover, his unwavering support extends beyond emotional encouragement. He has consistently picked up the slack in so many areas of our life together to ensure that I can focus on my work and meet the demands of my partners and clients. Whether it’s handling household chores, managing family responsibilities, or simply being a comforting presence when I needed it most, he has always been there, ready to help.
