We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina & Nick Caruso and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina & Nick, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
The amount of processed wine and beer that is in the U.S. market. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration currently allows 76 additives to wine produced within the country. These additives include food dye such as mega purple, Dimethyl Dicarbonate, and Copper Sulfate among others; some of which require teams in hazmats suites to apply them. Additionally, legally, wine makers are also not obligated to disclose whether they use the allowed additives or not creating a market of uncertainty.
This is why we have chosen to use our store to focus on wines from small, family owned and operated vineyards, with the majority of our wine makers using organic, or biodynamic farming practices.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our goal for Suds and Bottles was to create a space within the community that welcomes everyone. We strive to be a gathering place for our community to share ideas, stories and laughter while enjoying a quality beverage. Suds & Bottles was created out of the necessity to create an unintimidating space to learn about wine and craft beers without the fear of judgement or ridicule; an area to grow and transform the current wine and craft beer market.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A few places we like to introduce to our out of town guests are:
– The Mill on Etowah
There are so many spaces and things to do here! We love introducing our friends to Mike Murphy at Murph’s Surf to enjoy a tubing or kayaking trip on the Etowah River.
The Cotton Mill Exchange is a maze of fun and unique finds! You can find everything from plats at ‘Plant Daddies’ to boutique clothing from Boundless.
We can’t wait for the new restaurants and shops (Campania Pizza, Barrel Downs, and Frik and Frak) to open up soon!
– Downtown Canton
We always enjoy taking our out of town guests to experience our charming downtown area. We love to pop into POPS for a great Italian lunch and dinners at Goin’ Coastal are some of our favorites. Desserts at A Cone To Pick also should never be skipped.
On Saturday mornings, we enjoy paroozing the Downtown Canton Farmer’s Market for local goodies you can’t find anywhere else. We always end our market morning with coffee from Bizarre Coffee.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To the travelers, wine makers and producers, as well as the craft beer community. The knowledge they have instilled in us as well as their trust to pay it forward by passing on this knowledge to our community.
We’d also like to thank our families and our friends for the continued support and encouragement to continue on with our journey.
