We had the good fortune of connecting with Miranda Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miranda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business was a decision that stemmed from a deep consideration of several factors, both personal and professional. First and foremost, I recognized the importance of achieving a healthy work-life balance. In the field of therapy, where the well-being of clients is paramount, it’s equally essential for practitioners to prioritize their own self-care and family time. By starting my own practice, I gained more control over my schedule, allowing me to allocate time for both my clients and my loved ones in a way that felt sustainable and fulfilling.

Another significant factor in my decision was the desire to help clients on my own terms. While working within established frameworks can be beneficial, I found that having the freedom to tailor my approach to each client’s unique needs and preferences greatly enhanced the therapeutic process. This level of autonomy enables me to explore diverse therapeutic modalities and techniques, empowering me to provide more personalized and effective care to those I work with.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
PORT Counseling Group stands out in the field of mental health services by prioritizing the establishment of Generational Mental Wealth. Our approach goes beyond traditional therapy to focus on healing relationships, beginning with the individual’s relationship with themselves. We recognize the profound impact that childhood narratives and trauma can have on adult relationships, and we work diligently to help our clients understand and resolve these issues.

One of the key aspects that set us apart is our commitment to accessibility. We provide virtual therapy services to residents of South Carolina, Florida, and Georgia, ensuring that individuals who may not have access to local therapists or who require flexibility in their schedules can still receive the support they need. By leveraging technology, we are able to break down geographical barriers and reach a wider audience, ultimately increasing access to quality mental health care.

The journey to establishing PORT Counseling Group has been marked by challenges and lessons learned. From delayed payments from insurance to supporting our clients while we were going through our own personal struggles during the pandemic, every hurdle has been an opportunity for growth and resilience. I’ve learned the importance of perseverance, adaptability, and staying true to my values, even in the face of adversity.

Moving forward, I want the world to know that PORT Counseling Group is more than just a therapy practice—it’s a catalyst for change. We are committed to breaking down barriers to mental health care, empowering individuals to heal and thrive, and fostering generational well-being. Our dedication to accessibility, innovation, and client-centered care drives everything we do, and we are excited to continue making a positive impact in the lives of our clients and communities.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First off, their visit would 100% revolve around food because me and my besties are foodies for sure. To be honest, I’m such a homebody these days. Any time I end up going out, it’s a neighborhood favorite or a restaurant featured on local Instagram pages. My fave neighborhood spots include One Sushi in Brookhaven, Contigo Peru in Chamblee, and The Select in Sandy Springs. I’d also be sure to take them to eat somewhere in the Virginia Highlands, perhaps Ponce City Market, and my own house because my husband makes an amazing oxtail stew and can jerk some chicken like it’s his job. Did I mention we like to eat?!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely, I’d be honored to dedicate my shoutout to someone who has been instrumental in my journey: my former Clinical Supervisor, Paula Alvarez. As I reflect on my journey, I am profoundly grateful for Paula’s mentorship and the lasting impact she has had on my professional practice and personal development. Her guidance continues to shape the way I work with clients, supervisees, and colleagues, reminding me of the transformative power of genuine connection and unconditional positive regard. Paula, thank you for being a beacon of support and inspiration on this journey.
