We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Eide and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit since I was a child, but I wasn’t sure what type of business I wanted to start. That changed while I was in residency when I recognized the gaps in patient care and the limitations of insurance based medicine. It is my desire to provide the best quality of care that is affordable to my patients and to re-establish the physician-patient relationships that existed before the impact of managed care. I desire to provide the attention my patients deserve without feeling rushed during office visits. However, the care we had to give as residents involved patient visits that often felt rushed due to our busy schedules, large patient volumes and limited time slots which hindered the quality of care I wanted to provide. Follow up appointments were often scheduled with different physicians or booked past the time I wanted to see the patient back. This was all due to large patient panels, limited availability and a schedule that was always booked months in advance. The differences in management style and personalities impacted their continuity of care. It was during residency that I decided that for me to avoid burnout and to be fulfilled practicing medicine, I had to change the delivery of patient care I was going to provide. This meant not being confined by the walls of insurance. I decided to start up my own private practice following the model of Direct Primary Care (DPC). This membership based model would allow me to have a reduced number of patients on my panel which means better care, better access, more time spent with my patients addressing their concerns and health goals and transparent prices. Labs are discounted and the membership covers all of their office visits per month. Additionally, my passion for aesthetics and wellness in addition to primary care culminated in the formation of my DPC practice called Restore Wellness and MedSpa!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was born and raised in St. Louis, MO where I attended Saint Louis University and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation, I took a position as a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. Although very successful, my childhood calling of becoming a physician resurfaced after caring for my mother who passed away from breast cancer in 2011. In not wanting to live in regret by not pursuing my passion, I returned to the classroom as a Post-Baccalaureate student at Georgia State University. There I completed my pre-medical requirements all while working full time, raising three young boys and being a wife to a supportive husband. After completion of my studies, I then applied, was accepted and later graduated from Ross University School of Medicine in 2020. Upon graduation, I was matched into Family Medicine at Emory where I successfully completed my residency in June 2023. The journey to becoming a Physician while being a wife and mom was not easy especially being a first generation college graduate. I didn’t have the hand holding or a mentor I could go to for advice or help so a lot of figuring things out was by trial and error. My resilience from lessons learned throughout my life, my tribe of supporters and prayers is how I overcame these obstacles. I want the world to know that my authentic compassion and love of helping others is what drives my brand at Restore Wellness and MedSpa!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in Atlanta include the Beltline where you can ride, bike or walk while enjoying nature and various scenery. Atlanta is a melting pot for all types of cultures and food, but I love traveling up to Buford Highway to enjoy authentic Chinese, Thai, Korean or Filipino cuisine. The Buford Farmers Market is one of my favorite markets where you can find exotic fruits/veggies from countries all around the world. During the spring and summer, you can enjoy free art festivals and concerts at Piedmont Park.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to send a shoutout to my loving and supportive husband Aaron, my sons Cam’Ron, Elijah and Miles, my sisters Jessica and Catherine, my brother Richard, my dad Richard, my late mother Virginia, church family at Ponce Presbyterian and a host of extended family and friends.
