We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimey K and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimey, how do you think about risk?
I believe taking risks is the most important thing that plays into the development of your career; of your life in general. There’s a quote that I stand by, not sure who first said it, but it resonates with me— “If you only do what you can do, you’ll never be more than who you are.” Taking risks motivates people to grow and step out of their comfort zones; becoming the person that they know they can be or at least the person they feel they’re destined to be. Till this day, there isn’t a risk I’ve taken that I regret.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been modeling for a little over a decade now but have been trained by certain family members in my everyday life to always execute what they believed it was to be a physically perfect woman, if I wanted to eventually be a perfect model. From the way I walked, the way I talked, the way I sat— everything needed to be perfect. But as I got older and further into this field, I learned there was more to being a model than its physical attributes— it was your ability to leave a mark on those you presented yourself to. My ability to make another woman wanna love herself the way she is, to give her more reason to be confident and comfortable in her skin, to understand that any room she walks in she is fully capable of being the brightest light that could ever shine. The moment I learned that, I realized my passion is to model but my purpose is enlighten and inspire.

As for acting, I’ve been in this field for about 3 years now but had aspirations of being an actress since I was a child. This journey has been slightly more difficult than modeling because of the way the film industry is setup. If you aren’t already established within, it’s more challenging for you to be seen or noticed by the right people. Especially with being freelance. I’ve struggled heavily with trying to find management or an agency, because nowadays people try take advantage fresh faces just because they see how eager they are. They see determination and devotion as desperation, and think that we’ll accept any type of treatment. Every path is different and every journey isn’t easy, but I remain strong in my faith, continuing to put myself out there and know if this wasn’t something I was meant to do then God would’ve have brought me this far. Because at the end of the day, all every creator/artist really needs is that one good “yes.”

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My friends are very cutesy girls who love a good wine sip or brunch, but they also love a good turn up and vibe so our itinerary would be a perfect mixture of that. I know they love to work out, so hiking anywhere from Runyon Canyon to the Culver City stairs is a must. Of course everyday we’d visit a different restaurant based on what they’re hungry for, but my girls like to eat so we’d go anywhere from Nobu to In N Out. I’m not a big club girl but just to show them a good time I’d definitely take them to Highlight Room and possibly PH Day Club. Outside of clubs, we’d definitely do little things like bowling at Lucky Strike, Top Golf and roller skating. But knowing them, I feel like they would enjoy my favorite karaoke spot— Monday Night Vibes at Station 1640. All good vibes and R&B, it doesn’t get better than that.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I don’t believe I would be the woman I am today without my father, Christopher Holder. Not just with the way he raised me but with who he is as person— as a black man— he set a great example for the type of woman he knew I would grow up to be. Along with his wife Audra, my step mother by his side. And for that, I am eternally grateful for the both of them. My little sister Faith is another one, she’s definitely one of my many reasons to keep going. She’s 16 and basically my child, continuing to motivate me to be the best I can be in my personal and professional life. My cousin Adina as well. She played the second mother role to me my whole teenage and current adult life. Lastly, everyone needs a solid outside circle and my best friends are truly just that. Morgan State made women, Roneisha Pierce and Janoah Smith, have stood firmly by my side for years and I thank God everyday for sending them to me. Alongside several others I would love to name, from my East Coast friends to my West Coast tribe my heart will forever be full for those who have remained genuine to me.
