We had the good fortune of connecting with Cari Watts-Savage and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cari, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have always loved amateur photography. My parents gave me my own camera from a young age and I was always snapping photos of my pets and my friends. I continued to be the photo taker for my family and friends throughout my life. When I had my first baby, I had photos taken of her practically monthly. I also set up my own shoots at home for fun! Those shoots and props became something I looked forward to and found meaning in. Soon, I was searching for props and ideas everywhere I went! When we started spending time on the property while getting ready to build, it sort of happened organically.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our business truly is a labor of love and takes our whole family to make it work. My husband is always behind the scenes cutting grass, moving limbs, and doing the dirty work on his days off from his career in the power industry. Our kids are always around and often right with me when I’m meeting up with a new photographer, feeding animals, or shopping for a new backdrop. Family members baby sit and help us catch runaway farm animals at a moments notice. It hasn’t been easy, but we have loved having something we can build together. Our kids really don’t know any different and love being a part of it. That is what means the most to me!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since we are actually located in a more rural area of north east Georgia, my itinerary would focus on hidden gems and of course beautiful photo ops near us! Outdoor adventures for the whole family at Jaemor Farms, Hillside Orchards, and Tallulah Adventures. Beautiful (and accessible) hikes and scenic backdrops like Toccoa Falls, Black Rock State Park, and Minnehaha Falls. Delicious food like Clayton Cafe, Fenders, and Side Street Deli. We love our home town of Clarkesville and all its nearby towns!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My dad has always encouraged my love for nature, outdoors, and creativity. He has never complained when I asked him to pull over on the side of the road ten times for a photo op or when I ask him to “help” me build a giant cross for a photo shoot. He is the epitome of unconditional love and has always been my biggest fan. He is the best of the best!
