Meet Caitlin Waddle | Pediatric Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Caitlin Waddle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Caitlin, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Families often seek out Registered Dietitian Nutritionists for Medical Nutrition Therapy which is nutrition counseling that aims to delay, prevent, or treat a medical condition. In order to access a dietitian who accepts insurance, I’ve found that families are waiting many months or driving long distances. One of my passions is advocating for improved access to nutrition care provided by Registered Dietitian Nutritionists. In my business, I have focused on making nutrition counseling accessible by accepting insurance and providing telehealth services. In addition, I help other pediatric dietitians learn how to get established with insurance companies and bill for Medical Nutrition Therapy. As pediatric dietitians, we are all in this together to help Georgia children and their families access the nutrition care that they need.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’ve been a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist for about a decade working in a hospital-based setting, both in-patient and outpatient. Over the years I’ve discovered that there aren’t a lot of pediatric dietitians in the community that accept insurance. I enjoy working with pediatric patients and their families in the outpatient setting, so I decided establishing an insurance-based pediatric nutrition practice would be a fun and exciting challenge for me at this point in my career.
It’s funny because I am a pretty risk averse person. I often think about major decisions for a long time before I make a change. That is exactly what happened with Sprout Pediatric Nutrition; I’ve thought about establishing an insurance-based pediatric private practice for many years. Before I jump into something new, I often take a lot of time to learn about it first. However, I’ve found that when it comes to business, it is impossible to know everything and there is not a “perfect way” to get started.
I’ve tried to learn as much as I can about establishing a business and building a brand, but let’s be honest, I’ve needed help! I’ve worked to seek guidance and support from people who have more experience in private practice and brand development. I’ve learned a lot and I’m continuing to learn as I go.
My primary goal in starting Sprout Pediatric Nutrition has been to make Medical Nutrition Therapy accessible to children, adolescents and their families across Georgia by offering both virtual and in-person visits and accepting insurance.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We definitely have to eat at Forza Storico in The Westside Provisions District and hang out at The Works on the Upper Westside of Atlanta. Most of my best friends have children, so I always think The Georgia Aquarium or Atlanta Zoo are unique and fun experiences that the adults enjoy too!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A huge shout out to my husband who, as he says, “has been telling me to do my own thing forever”. I’ve also been really fortunate to have great mentorship from some really incredible dietitians and friends.
