Meet Khia Jackson: Graphic Designer / Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Khia Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Khia, how do you think about risk?
Risk is the backbone of entrepreneurship. It’s also extremely stressful at times. It’s also thrilling and incredibly self-affirming when the risk pays off. It can also stop you from wanting to get out of bed some days. Honestly, You can’t move forward without it. As a fulltime entrepreneur I’m met with ‘risk’ on a very regular basis. It’s constant. And I can’t lie. It’s scary as hell sometimes. But you push through. I’ve been at this for several years and over time I’ve learned to not-so-much “push through” it as “drift through it”.
Risk is a big part of my life now, and I tend to see it as always working out for me in the long run. This perspective takes the edge off the fear. I tend to ask myself “will this push me to grow?” and “can I handle this?”. If the answer is “Yes” for both questions, then I dive in. If its “no” for either question, I don’t do it…at least not at that moment.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m am definitely most excited when I see people using my artwork for everyday use. I’ve had the privilege of working in fashion and at a major magazine. I’ve gotten to see people walk around with my artwork on their backs or images that i created being used by bloggers and on social media. That’s really special. I think it’s every artists dream to affect positive change in the world around them. The biggest lesson I would say I’ve learned is to trust your own vision and don’t let the ‘well-intentioned’ fears and doubts of other people slow your stride.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’re going to Honey Pig to have the very best Korean BBQ in all of Atlanta! We are going to The High Museum to see if any good new art is being exhibited. We are taking a drive through Edgewood and Cabbage Town during the day to check out the street art style murals, and then we are headed to Peters Street to see if my girl KD is throwing another dope event. The next day We’ll go to Phipps Mall and catch a matinee…(those seats feel like you’re in a space shuttle!). Then Window Shop / Shop before we head over to True Food Kitchen for an early Dinner. We’ll check all the venues because great musicians are ALWAYS swinging by atlanta to bless the city and then on Sunday we’ll go to SoundTable for the Rum Punch Brunch for vibez and upscale caribbean food.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout is to my parents. Two people I’m very proud of who taught me to think outside of the box and that anything I want is mine to take.
I also want to shout of my ‘Co-Workers’. These are other entrepreneurs that have rocked with me and given ‘water-cooler support’ even tho we don’t have watercoolers: Deborah from Little Muffin Cakes, Terry and Lexi from ‘Can I Kick It’, Troy from ‘Davinci Coloring Books’ and KD & Ginger from ‘Craftrap’. Lastly I’d like to shout out Alexis and Lamont from ‘Black Game Makers Association’, for their hard work and dedication their mission. They are sooo appreciated!
