We had the good fortune of connecting with Tasha Turnbull and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tasha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I knew that in order for my business to be long-standing fixture on the market it had to be something that I am passionate about; something that I would enjoy doing 5 to 7 days a week. But I had no idea what type of business could afford me that type of feeling. My current job was not interesting to me at all so that led me to think deeply about my life and jot down things and activities I enjoyed doing by myself or as a group, during the week, holidays, and on the weekends. By performing that task, it led me to health and fitness as being that brought me the most joy in life.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

My business today is split up into three major factions. First is my personal training business. I owned a fitness studio for twelve years and after closing it a few months ago, I transitioned to fully training clients virtually. So I have clients that I train all across the country. 100% of my clients are busy women working in a multitude of fields who understands that even though their responsibility list is high, a priority in their life also includes taking care of their health. So training is focused on maintaining an optimal strength level, endurance, and flexibility so they are not only able to take great care of their own health, but function optimally when working on other tasks that are composed of their busy schedule. To date, I’ve trained over 10,000 women over the course of 13 years. I am also the founder and executive director of the T2 Fitness Foundation, a nonprofit organization created to assist high risk individuals in our community learn how to improve their whole health despite living on a fixed income and or having a busy schedule. Lastly, I’m a Stress Management and Recovery Health Coach who speaks across the country assisting individuals and companies identify unique and practical ways they can include wellness as a part of their lifestyle to enhance their quality of life and/or job performance. What sets me apart from others is my dedication and obsessiveness with making sure my clients leave and create space in their schedule to take care of their health. Being that I used to be obese myself and how I’ve changed my life around, my clients understand that I am right along the journey with them…working as diligently as I can to include those small moments in my routine that helps me maintain a great deal of not only my weight loss but also my physical and mental strength as well.
I got to where I am today but not completely letting go of the wheel. So many people tend to give up, let go as life stressors put a chokehold on our life at different times. And I understand how that happens, because the challenges don’t come at one time, they will come all at once. And so instead of completely letting go I might loosen up my hold, take a rest break, dial back my effort because there is less to give. But is giving up an option? No. I’ve come too far to let go. And I’ve realized that hard times come in waves. So if you stick to even a little of your routine, you’ll still have some of those habits that you can lean into when the coast clears. If you completely let it go, it becomes extremely hard to “start over.” So I never let completely go. Never; it’s not an option.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So I would love for my friend and I to start out doing a 3 mile trail walk at Island Ford Trail. After our walk, we’d head back into Atlanta to get brunch at Cultivate Food and Coffee and catch up some while at the restaurant. After showering and freshening up we would head to the Spa At the Starling for a deep tissue massage that I booked for both of us. After the spa, we would probably relax at home and catch up a bit more just chilling on the couch.
The next day we would head to Be Hot Yoga studio for a round of bikram yoga. Followed by an uber delicious brunch at Gocha’s breakfast bar and then dinner at The BeiRut for a little Lebanese flair. In between breakfast and dinner, if we had time we would try to make it to the High Museum of Art to see if there’s a new collection either one of us hadn’t had the opportunity to experience.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to shout out my clients, especially those first clients who took a chance on me helping them to improve their health. Back then I wasn’t fortunate enough to have a mentor, group, or organization I could look to for support. So I really had to rely on trial and error to keep the party going. I continued to use my clients as my focus group, continually asking them questions about their experiences in training with me so that I could enhance the user’s experience while also helping me to streamline my delivery of services (personal training, large-scale community events, and speaking opportunities) to the community at large.
