We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelan Watson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelan, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
The single most important decision I made that contributed to my success was putting God first in everything that I did. That decision fell in line with trusting my God given discernment, leading with both kindness and assertiveness, and utilizing my faith to take necessary risks and trusting when to be still.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am the co- owner of Sovereign Sweets alongside my brother, Vinny. Sovereign Sweets is a distinguished dessert and cocktail lounge in Buckhead, GA. It’s an absolutely beautiful establishment with a one of a kind lollipop shaped bar, hand crafted foliage wall paper, 14 person private ViP Room, delicious seasonal cocktails, small tasty bites and entrees, and lastly a nostalgic ambiance that makes you want to raise your glass, put your phone down, and connect with a neighbor.
I am also the Co owner of V12 Restaurant alongside my brother Vinny and Quavo (of the Migos). V12 is the first of its kind in Atlanta. It is situated in the heart of midtown, high in the sky, leaving one of the last unobstructed views in our dear city. V12 is a high end Sports bar that accommodates a five star kitchen that covers 7500sqft of pure eloquence. V12 offers an elevated experience from the Lamborghini suspended in the air to our retractable “Mercedes Benz” like rooftop terrace. V12 will be a staple in Atlanta when we open Spring 2024.
I’d tell anyone who aspires to be an entrepreneur that nothing about being an entrepreneur is easy, but everything will eventually be worth it. If you never ask yourself “how am I going to do this?” than you’re not dreaming big enough. If you never get to a point where you feel like quitting and it doesn’t seem like there aren’t enough tissues in the world to catch your tears fast enough than you haven’t even touched the level of success that you’re headed. You have to trust the process, but more importantly, trust God!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was in town for the weekend I’d take them to a few favorites. We’d take the dogs out for a run at Piedmont park and the grab bagels at one of the corner shops. I’d keep it a bit more active by asking them to join me for hot yoga at Korsi. After showering, we would head to slim and huskies for some authentic pizza and salad. I’d schedule a helicopter ride to see the city views and then head to Sovereign Sweets for some dinner and dessert. The next day i’d let them take me to all the cool Atlanta spots that they have heard about to balance our interests.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother is my inspiration. She inspires me to believe that anything that I desire is absolutely obtainable as long as it is in God’s will. She is as strong as an ox and as sweet as a flower. She taught me the power of being a woman in a male dominated society doesn’t mean that you have to lose your femininity but own it! I practice both humility and persistence everyday because of her.
