Meet Misty Oaks Paxton | The Spiritual Attorney

We had the good fortune of connecting with Misty Oaks Paxton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My Brand is The Spiritual Attorney, where I empower those who are struggling to thrive in this ever-changing world with the knowledge, tools, & wellness practices to unlock more alignment, flow & ease in every area of their lives.
What sets me apart really is the structure of my brand. I am a Certified Corporate Wellness Specialist and speaker, so the bulk of my practice is dedicated to helping wellness centered Law Firms, Companies, Colleges and Organizations provide their people with practical tools and strategies to maintain optimal balance, performance and peace of mind. I primarily do this through my Mind-Body-Spirit Challenges, which incorporates a nutrition plan, live exercise sessions with me as their Certified Zumba Instructor, weekly breathwork, tapping, and mindfulness meditations, and personal coaching from me throughout the challenge. I also speak on various topics such as resilience, cooperation vs. competition, the power of breathwork, and presence over mindfulness. I am currently developing my corporate coaching program, called The Spiritual Executive Officer Academy, wherein I provide my clients with a comprehensive 12-week framework for total mind-body-spirit wellness and wholeness.
The other thing that sets me apart from other spiritual brands is that my brand is in large part educational, to provide the tools, tips, knowledge and information that many are desperately seeking in these shifting times we live in, but I also work with the clients to implement the information. Together we take a journey of enlightenment and evolution by actually putting the tools to work. That can be through guided tapping sessions, 1-on-1 coaching sessions, reiki, hypnotherapy, tarot and cardology readings, or whatever the client needs for an energetic tune up and elevated alignment. So the client is both taught how to fish and then together, we go fishing.
So many lessons have been learned along the way, both in business and in my own healing journey. I think the top 3 lessons I have learned thus far are:
1- Starting and maintaining a business cannot just be for the money. At the end of the day, money comes and money goes, and often times, it goes much faster than it comes. So if money is your why, the foundation is already flimsy. What you decide to pour your heart, soul, time and resources into must serve a purpose larger than yourself. It must be meaningful, in alignment with your calling, you must be passionate about it, and you must find the love in it so that you can sustain it through all its ups and downs.
2-You cannot do it alone. Trying to do everything alone is a surefire recipe for failure, as you only have so much capacity as one person. But if you can find a way to align with your tribe, with those on the same wavelength as you who can add to you as a person and to the furtherance of your business and you can be in a symbiotically supportive and reciprocal relationship with them–you’re golden.
3- Keep going! There are times you’re gonna throw your hands up and ask, what is the point? Why keep going? There are times when that exhaustion, depletion and disappointment will hit so hard it just might knock you down. But once again, when you know your work has a deeper purpose, when you know you are answering your calling and giving much needed value to the world, those anchors can help keep you grounded and motivated when it seems like all the odds are against you. Resilience and persistence pay!
What I want the world to know about my brand and my story is that I don’t have all the answers. I never profess to be a teacher, but rather a student who is simply sharing all that I have come across in my studies. I am a seeker of truth, justice, beauty, balance, and solutions in this puzzling paradigm we live in and I’m grateful for all those who choose to take the journey with me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As we all know, there is always something happening in Atlanta and there’s something for everyone! For me, I’m a big music/poetry/art/creativity lover so my itinerary would definitely involve those elements. For music, we could stop by JB’s Record Lounge in the West End to pick up some vinyl. For art, the High Art Museum usually has a First Fridays or Jazz event going on that’s a nice vibe. Westside Cultural Arts Center typically has some artsy craftsy, music laden event happening that might be cool to check out. But of course, there’s no shortage of music and dancing in the city. For a latin vibe, Eclipse di Luna is nice for salsa nights. For live music, St. James Live or Perfect Note are a move. For a more personal vibe, open mic nights at St. Peters Street Station or the Poetic Jazz pop-ups should get the job done.
I am a huge foodie but I have to be gluten-free, so for me, I would take a friend to some of the best gluten-free spots I know about, which are: Sprig, Bantam & Biddy, Egg Harbor Cafe, Arepas Mia, Surin of Thailand, and Southern Sweets for that delicious gluten free desert. But there are ton of restaurants I want to try, including: La Semilla, Planta, Tiki Thai ATL, Tulum, Prime on Peachtree, Weezy’s, Batsi and a few others, so we’d definitely have to go restaurant hopping. For small plates, I have to give Ruby Chow’s a shout out, cause that food is just *muah* chef’s kiss good.
For hanging out, I love to laugh, so checking out a comedy show could be on the itinerary. I love to play games and have fun, so Your 3rd Spot is a great place to do that. I’m also a mystery lover slash brainiac, so either a murder mystery dinner or an Escape Room could be fun.
Other suggestions of things to do could be checking out New Black Wall Street in Stonecrest to support black owned businesses, getting out into nature with a hike or walk at a place like Cascade Nature Preserve or Yellow River Park, belly dancing or yoga at the Wellness Spot in College Park, taught by my sister Vashti Dennis, a spa day at Spa Land in Duluth or Platinum Beauty Bar & Spa in Conyers, or drinks at a speakeasy like El Malo in Reynoldstown or Anansi in Decatur. The possibilities are endless!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It’s easy to be a supportive friend when life is grand and everything is going your way. It requires much more selflessness, love, and effort to be a supportive friend when life is breaking down and it’s out of your control. The past year of my life has without question been one of the most challenging, and it was those dear friends who walked with me through the valley, put their arm around my shoulder, put a smile on my face, and hope in my heart that I will always be deeply grateful for. My dear friends like Shawn Brooks, Ken Ford and my sisters Christi Jones, Vashti Dennis, Tanesha Tekola, and Karma Anika Maat. The love is real!
Also, now that I’m a mother, my Mom has been a great help to me with raising my son and I am eternally grateful for the flexibility she provides for me to still be able to work as hard as I do, knowing my son is in great hands with her. My Dad and my step-mom too have been so supportive of me on this journey of new motherhood while elevating my career. My heart is filled with gratitude. And just all the love and support from all my clients, followers, and viewers–deep bow of respect and love to you all!
