We had the good fortune of connecting with Namiko Allicock and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Namiko, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
I try not to sound cliché with answering this question because it could be seen so simple. To put it out of thought of course my family and success, but what keeps me uplifted is the ever changing forms of music and fashion. I love stories and for me, music tells the story but fashion brings the story to life. Being that both is so versatile, the realm of music and fashion keep me within a creative space which in turn is my happy place!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets apart CMPZR and WavAtl from most clothing brands and just me being a DJ would have to be that I am a giant melting pot thats always looking to enhance with new ingredients. I immerse myself in learning new techniques to bring a solid mix to a party. I also take everything as a learning opportunity whether it be learning new music from different cultures or understanding the ropes of DJ’ing. I was always told to see everything as a means of ingesting information. How I got to where I am today with making clothes and Djaying is just knowing that the fashion makes the music and vice versa. Using both to elevate, as well as having a solid support system elevated me greatly because understanding that you cannot do this business alone and that there needs to be foundations solidified a strong one for CMPZR & WavAtl. If i had to say something that I’d want the world to know about my brand is that it’s built on a hunger and that hunger creates a monster. What the world would need to know about Wav, besides being the curator is that i’m never going to stop or quit. Determination is the key factor to keeping my name alive and I will be one of the greats!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friends were to come visit for a week, it would only be right to give them the full experience. Monday would be calm; probably dinner at STK. Tuesday, we would have to go to Cru on Peter’s Street to “catch a vibe.” Wednesday, we would go to Edgewood to Fin & Feathers or just bar crawl but to make sure I go to Harold’s. Thursday, we are at Revel with OneWay promotions for RnB Thursdays. Friday, we are at either Revel OR Visions for Like Glu. For the after hours, I’m going to Royal Peacock. Saturday, we might need a break and have a calm but lit dinner at Spice House off Panola. Sunday is three words: Rum Punch Brunch.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are many people I could sit here and name that contribute to my success. To begin, I have to give love to my fellow DJ’s: Teq, Slim B, Simbazilla, Steezo and KC. They keep me on my toes and it’s dope to see that we all are elevating. Each of our successes may be individual in some manner but also pushes me to be better so they all coincide. I also have to include my sister India, my brother Christian and Keenan, and my best friends Andrew, Charles, and Rikki for keeping me touching my turntables and threading sewing needles. Destini for keeping me in a club when I didn’t want to be in one and making sure I networked. I also have to thank Jamie Lary of OneWay for being a solid force in making sure I don’t miss a step. Lastly, I always have to thank the higher and my parents.
