We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Elkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
In business, it’s all about who you are working with. By being very selective and careful about who you hire and who you allow to be your clients, you can eliminate 80% of the problems that other businesses have in your industry. Most of the issues that have been very difficult to overcome in my company have been due to either employees who weren’t the right fit for our company culture or clients who hired us who are not honest and forthcoming, have entirely unrealistic expectations, or had malicious intent when hiring us. Avoiding problematic employees and clients as best as possible helps keep everything running smoothly at my company. Surrounding ourselves with great people in our personal and professional lives is critical for our success and happiness in life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I take immense pride in leading my moving company. We’ve been in business for a decade, during which we’ve successfully assisted thousands of clients with their relocations. Our unwavering commitment to showing up for every move sets us apart in an industry plagued by unreliability. Many moving companies have a notorious reputation for failing to honor commitments, but our record of consistent attendance is a testament to our dedication. This journey of ten years has been challenging, yet rewarding. Adopting a day-by-day approach and learning from each mistake, I’ve embraced the ‘school of hard knocks’ philosophy, believing that life’s most challenging lessons are its most valuable. At the heart of our business is a deep-rooted commitment to service, striving for excellence with every client. We prioritize creating mutually beneficial situations for both our employees and clients, placing people before profit. This ethos of integrity and exceptional service is not just our business strategy, but our path to becoming an industry leader.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In a week-long trip to Phoenix, Arizona, your best friend would experience a blend of urban culture and natural beauty. Starting with the vibrant downtown area, you’d explore renowned museums, indulge in diverse culinary delights, and catch live entertainment. Outdoor adventures would include hiking iconic Camelback Mountain, wandering through the stunning Desert Botanical Garden, and a day trip to the scenic red rocks of Sedona. Scottsdale’s art scene, Tempe’s lively atmosphere, and historical insights at Heritage Square and Wrigley Mansion would add to the richness of the experience. The journey would be balanced with leisurely activities like a relaxing day at a luxury spa, ensuring a well-rounded and unforgettable Arizona adventure.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
No one achieves success alone; it often involves support from friends, family, mentors, and books. I was lucky to have excellent business role models: my stepfather and my older brother Jesse, both successful entrepreneurs. Their guidance and different approaches instilled the confidence in me to believe in my own business potential.
