We had the good fortune of connecting with Tremeka Pope and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tremeka, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Before beginning the journey of event planning, my passion has always been with children. Working in the field of special education for the past 23 years, I have had the privilege of decorating for various programs, classrooms, parades, and school social events. Having the responsibility to take a vision and orchestrate it to where the finished décor was simply amazing and motivated me to want more. From the very first time when I collaborated as a team to create a theme and vision, I immediately knew I wanted to pursue my dreams of helping others outside the educational arena. So, the desire to become an event planner started over a decade ago. From decorating for the district to helping a friend with her wedding: I knew it was time to step out on faith and venture out on my own. This process has afforded me opportunities to step out of my comfort zone and reach beyond my wildest dreams. When I started working as an event planner, I hoped to expand on my creativity and establish a relationship with people while providing a touch of elegance for special events, gatherings, and parties. Not to mention, doing it all without breaking a sweat or my client’s bank account. I believe that my business, “Evon’s Gifted Hands LLC” has allowed me opportunities to work hands-on with the client while projecting and making my visualization come true in a real-world environment. While paying special attention and focusing on budgeting, coordinating, planning, and executing the vision. Whilst making an everlasting memory and impression on individuals.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have worked as a special education educator for the last 23 years and my hobby of wanting to bring my creative vision to life allowed me to become an event planner for over a decade. The most important factor behind my success in life is of course Faith and having the support of my family. These two things have contributed to the greatness of my life. Even though other factors have played an important role in my success faith and family always hold the number one spot. With faith and a strong support system, I have been successful in prioritizing my goals, having a clear plan of action, and learning from my mistakes. I have always believed in the saying that those who work hard are more likely to succeed. Also being a person who is self-driven, disciplined, and has a positive outlook on situations, people and things has given me opportunities for success in my life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I enjoy having fun and spending time with friends and family. Some of the hot spots that I have enjoyed visiting would be Hal and Mal or especially on Mondays to listen to live Rhythm and Blues. To get some good ole fashion soul food we would travel to Berry’s, Mama Hamil’s or Sugar Place. The week would not be complete without stopping by the Iron Horse Grill. Where you could also enjoy great appetizers, hearty meal, and live music. While visiting and you would need to relax and recharge the Westin in the downtown area is the spot, this where you can enjoy conversation and the atmosphere.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my mother, Clara (God Rest Her Soul), my daughter Trinity , my siblings,, family and friends.
