We had the good fortune of connecting with Khris Ferguson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Khris, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought of starting my own business didn’t start until November of 2013. One day, for Thanksgiving, a corporation I had worked for had a potluck, I decided to bring a homemade cheesecake that I’d made, and decided to share it with the people that I am sharing my time with other than my own family (it was the first I did anyone outside of family, I was nervous as hell!). After seeing how my 10″ strawberry cheesecake pie was devoured in 30 minutes I was amazed. I received raving reviews and the marketing director of the company asked me about the cheesecake if I brought it from a bakery or store, and mentioned that it was better than “Cheesecake Factory” and that I should start a business. The light bulb went off in my head, and that’s when I started to seriously consider that. I took it under careful consideration, to a point where it felt too rewarding and exciting to pass up. It became a passion when I seen that people enjoyed what I had created. I knew from that point it was about finding a market for it, evolve and make continuous improvement, stay persistent and resilient to stand out
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am proud of being a role model. Being a role model can inspire others to face their challenges head-on push their boundaries, and believe in their ability to overcome adversity. Sharing my stories, and the lessons learned along the way can empower younger individuals to pursue their passions and strive for success despite any obstacles they may encounter. Being a entrepreneur, realtor, model, and actor demonstrate versatility and a multi-faceted approach to my career. Each of these fields requires dedication, skill, and a unique set of talents, making my accomplishments even more reflective and surprising to me because how far I came and the growth.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It is so much to do in Atlanta, and the food here is terrific, But it depends on people taste in regards to their interest and foods, Atlanta has some of everything besides the beach. You can hangout in Olympic Park have picnic and enjoy the scenery, you would be surrounded by local venues such as the College Football Hall of Fame, Georgia Aquarium, The World Coca-Cola, Mercedes Benz Stadium, State Farm Arena, The Tabernackle, Skyview Farris Wheel, even enjoy a horse and carriage ride through Downtown Atlanta. My favorite restaurant probable would the Sun Dial Restaurant Bar & View, not only you enjoy some delicious food but you can enjoy a breathtaking view of Atlanta and the surrounding areas. You can enjoy the Piedmont Tavern for great food and the perfect iconic balance views of Downtown Atlanta. Midtown also Atlantic Station where you have great restaurants and shops, and a romantic bridge and pond to take pictures and make memories, and Overtime Arena if you love basketball. College Park is not too far from the Airport but has a bunch of trendy restaurants and brunch spots off Main Street like Nouveau Bar & Grill, Johnny’s Chicken and Waffle. I love a spot in Fayetteville which is called Ms. Ruby’s Peach Cobbler Cafe. But you have so many attractions, one thing I always recommend for visitors is to go to the Jackson Street Bridge so you could be able to capture the entire city behind. You also have Ponce De Leon Market, you can in that area and enjoy a rooftop scenery or a nice concert at the City Winery, if you love nature scenic views you can always go to Stone Mountain to the east or go to the northwest and enjoy views of Kennesaw Mountain. It is just so much to do in this beautiful city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
