We had the good fortune of connecting with Avery Rosser and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Avery, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I decided to start my own counseling private practice, my main motivation was the desire for autonomy. I wanted the freedom to make my own decisions and shape the direction of my work. More importantly, I aimed to create a culturally responsive and safe space for my clients, recognizing the significant need for such environments in therapy. Betting on myself, I was driven by the belief in my ability to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others through a practice that reflected my values and approach to counseling.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our business is a family-owned counseling private practice, co-managed with my wife. We are profoundly excited about offering exceptional care to our community, especially focusing on respecting and valuing each client’s identity.

Transitioning into this venture, I reflect on my academic and professional journey. I earned my master’s degree in community counseling from Columbus State University in 2013. My career then led me through diverse experiences in the field, including roles in an inpatient psychiatric hospital, an elementary school, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Achieving my credentials as a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2016 was a pivotal point in my career.

Inspired by my wife’s encouragement, we launched our practice in March 2017. The path wasn’t smooth; it was fraught with challenges, primarily due to my initial unfamiliarity with the business aspect. Thankfully, the guidance of my mentor, Dr. Ryan Day, was instrumental in navigating these complexities.

From this journey, I’ve gleaned valuable lessons. First and foremost is the importance of self-belief. Venturing into entrepreneurship, especially without prior exposure, demands courage. Moreover, I’ve learned the significance of mentorship and the crucial need for self-care in this demanding field.

Our brand ethos revolves around the belief that ‘it takes a village’. Choosing us as your provider means we become part of your support system, dedicated to helping you achieve your goals. We firmly believe in honoring your identity, a principle that is interwoven into every aspect of our business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
