We had the good fortune of connecting with Gardy Girault and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gardy, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Sometimes some issues that arise in your personal life affect your production wise or on stage, but you have to keep going and do your best not to show it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I got my start in the business by a DJ that I respect till today; Dj Di (Didi Moscoso). My first gig was at Magdoos restaurant in Petionville. At the time I did it for fun, because I truly enjoyed electronic music (all types really) and allowing people to express themselves through music. My passion grew as I continued to play. With the earthquake that struck our island in 2010, I turned my heartbreak into producing. I wanted a way to truly honor my roots, to bring value to our culture and music. There were of course challenges, as with any new thing that is introduced. My music was not considered a popular genre. It was something that I believed in and pursued. I knew from there, that I would need to start producing my own events, for the public who wanted to be part of the movement. I started my own PR label with this in mind, giving access to all my fans worldwide, thus birthing Rizing Muzik.
My intention was never to just share this with my people but with the world, a mix of electronic music and afro inspired sounds from Haiti.
Haitian music, in general, is a happy catchy vibe. In continuing with producing and honoring my country, my goal is to share and make Raratech, electronic music, something that the whole world can enjoy no matter where you come from. It is my continued dream to be able to contribute to bringing Haiti to global attention, as a legit contributor to world music and innovation.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The greatest thing about our island is that you can have the best of 2 different sceneries in 1 weekend: the mountains and the beach. We would start out by having a nice typical dinner at one of our local restaurants. Maybe having a drink on one of our rooftop establishments to take in the breathtaking views of Port au Prince by night and go bar hopping at the different joints open to dance. Port au prince offers bars with compas vibes, open format, and more funky afro styles. Saturday we would take a scenic trip to the mountains of Kenscoff, maybe stop at one of the stands and order a little griot snack and continue onto Wynne farm natural preserve.
One of the best things about home is the small quaint gatherings of friends over food and music. We would take it easy Saturday night with just that, good food, friends, and music.
Sunday morning, we would head to the beach and spend the day in the warm Caribbean sea, where we would eat fresh caught seafood and enjoy some nice rhum cocktails. On our way back in town, we may stop at one of the local pizzerias for some ice cream or just a nice light meal to top off such a rich and eventful weekend.
