We had the good fortune of connecting with Monika Monk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monika, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
For me, my life drastically changed when I focused on truly understanding how my body worked, how I communicate, and sensual body movement. That’s why I started my business Twisted Intimacy; I wanted to create a safe space for women and couples to be able to understand their bodies, minds, communication skills, and body movement. Our society treats sexual health and sensual body movement techniques as something that is taboo and shouldn’t be discussed or taught. I highly disagree with that way of thinking because from personal experience and working with clients, not knowing yourself from the inside out can negatively affect how you live your life.

What should our readers know about your business?
Twisted Intimacy is a safe space for women and couples to fall in love with themselves in every stage of intimacy, love, and sensuality that they may experience in their lives. As an intimacy and sensuality coach, I teach about sexual health, sensual body movement, self-care routines, holistic routines, and improving communication skills. The goal is for me to support you in helping yourself so that you will eventually not need me anymore.

Through networking and participating in various conferences and podcasts, I’ve been able to share my business with others nationwide, which has been very exciting to think about. When I start sharing my experiences and what I have learned over the years, it amazes me when others say how they may not have heard of certain techniques or practices and that they would be interested in learning more.

The biggest challenge and lesson I learned was to be able to pivot your business to what your clients want versus what you want to teach about. It sounds like a no brainer, but trust me; a lot of entrepreneurs go through this. You are so passionate about a certain subject, create the content or product based on that subject; only for your clients to be interested in another subject or product you may have that you may not be as enthusiastic about. Use that pivot point as a lead magnet for the content or product you are enthusiastic about.

I’m very excited for where Twisted Intimacy is going. We offer 1-1 coaching, group classes, private parties, retreats, speaking engagements, and so much more. Ya’ll definitely should check us out and follow all social media platforms!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely check out the black owned restaurants in the area that have bottomless mimosas and amazing entrees. I like to go with the flow when I go out so I would definitely pick a lounge and see where the night takes us.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be where I am in my business now without three specific individuals: Liletta Harlem, Ruth Skyy, and Karyn Elle. Each one of these women served as mentors for me and various points in my journey, especially in the beginning. I truly appreciate their wisdom, kindness, and support when I felt like giving up on this business.
