Hi Mickia, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
In business, the most difficult decision I had to make, or rather accept, was that I am not suitable for everyone. Early on in business, I took whatever opportunity that was presented to me, even if it was more of an inconvenience for me than an actual gain. My prices were not matching my level of service and often times I was doing more free labor than anything. I was just so eager to make my business work. I wanted to put my brand out there by any means necessary. It worked for a while. Well, at least until it didn’t. I was overworked, underpaid, and unappreciated. I realized if I wanted others to respect my business, I had to treat it like one. I needed clear boundaries, non-negotiable offers, and complete certainty that I was worth these changes. The whole point of starting a business is to make more money and eventually create a life that isn’t so demanding. I had to price for profit and not necessarily affordability. To be honest, I am extremely affordable for the ideal clients that can afford me. My target audience was not clear initially, but now I have complete clarity and I am focused on the growth of my brand.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Jolley Shift is the business for businesses. We assist with back-end tasks for businesses to run more efficiently. We offer monthly retainer packages that offer a variety of services. We are the ultimate virtual assistance spot. I am extremely proud of being able to work with extremely successful companies and the exposure that The Jolley Shift has received. The Jolley Shift is known for quick project turnaround time and over-exceeding client expectations. The Jolley Shift was established in May 2022. The business actually got off to an extremely fast start and it proved that this type of business was needed more than I had projected. This year, I have focused more on sharpening my skills and learning more skills to improve the client experience. Important lessons that I have learned along the way are to set my prices and stick to them. My tribe will come. My biggest challenge is talking about my business more often and as often as possible. I want the world to know that The Jolley Shift is here to help entrepreneurs succeed by any means possible.
