We had the good fortune of connecting with Noèl Scales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Noèl, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The music industry is an industry. Many artists forget that this industry is a business first. The creative is almost always last. Image, marketing and branding are so key in this game. While you shouldn’t compare yourself to anyone, it can be helpful to see what sells and how its being sold. This is something I am teaching myself, marketing and branding matters.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe my music is different because i address social and personal issues in my lyrical content. Music for me is a statement always. I don’t create just to say i created something, I always create with a purpose. Some people may disagree with that approach, however I believe that is what sets me apart. Many people can sing, write, and produce but not everyone is bold enough to take a stand with their music.

I am excited about my new EP “Mandemic”. Between the production and writing, I don’t know which one,
I’m more proud of. The process of creating the EP was a long labor of love. It took two years to create and release.
I felt so full when I was able to release the records, shoutout to my producer Epikh Pro and engineer Danny Ji for putting their whole entire foot in this project.

I believe I got to where I am is by being relentless. I am a dedicated person and I’m in love with what I do . My art is a reflection of that. I also feel my ability to “go with the flow” and live life has helped me transform my artistry in a way I didn’t expect. The road to becoming a musician hasn’t been easy by any stretch. In fact, I joke sometimes about having should’ve chose nursing as a career lol! To be honest being an artist has given me a life experience that I wouldn’t change. I’ve learned so much on this journey. I’ve gained amazing friends and lost some friends. I’ve been given the opportunity to experience different sides of being a professional musician, and I’ve worked a 9-5 to be able to continue my work. I’ve had the full experience.

I’ve overcome most of my challenging experiences in the field by going harder. I feel that many of the negative experiences have helped me learn myself. Those lessons taught me who I am. I overcome by knowing that God has a bigger purpose for my life. I may not know what the purpose is in that moment, however I know there is one – I find peace in that.

Two of the best lessons I’ve learned in this industry is “Be Professional, and Read The Room”. Even when others are being flashy or making their presence known, it’s important to read the room. You also never know who is in the room. Be humble, and wait your turn. Don’t be desperate to be seen. Engage from a place of love and not fear.

I want the world to know that this is just the beginning of my journey as an artist. I plan on tapping into multiple genres and other mediums, my art is immeasurable. Noèl Scales, is here to inspire and imitate life through my art.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m from Philadelphia, and my city is known for its food so I would have a breakfast and dinner spot lined up for everyday. I would also take them to a music event, our open mics are legendary. I would go to” Time” on Saturday night for drinks and live music – for sure. For breakfast I would take them to Sabrina’s or Green Eggs Café. For Lunch, we could grab a cheesesteak from Delassandros or Tacos from La Prima Taqueria. For Dinner I would do Korean BBQ in Chinatown at Nine Ting or Asian Fusion for Happy Hour at Sampan. Those are some of my favorite places to eat and hang.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Growing up I’ve been fortunate enough to have many mentors. Piano teachers, voice teachers, performance coaches and many others. However, my shoutout is dedicated to my father. He was always in my corner when it came to me pursuing a career in music. He would drop me off and pick me up from rehearsals, shows, the gym – you name it!

My father was my biggest supporter on my journey as an artist. He is a jazz fan so he always had an appreciation for music. He would play all kinds of artist for me as a child, as well as my mother. My mother introduced me to Prince, Whitney Houston, and Michael Jackson at a young age. I would watch these artists in awe and wish I could sing and perform like them. I owe my musical palette to my parents for sure.
