We had the good fortune of connecting with Yi Fu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yi, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Creating art brings me a sense of inner peace. It’s as if I’m nestled in a cozy forest cabin, watching gentle snowflakes cascade outside my window. Occasionally, I hear a soft crackle from the burning coals nearby. Seated by the window, I immerse myself in deep contemplation, focusing on my thoughts. Time seems to slow down, allowing me to delve into my inner world with unwavering determination and confidence. I no longer ponder the chaotic external world; instead, I relish the harmonious flow of my own mind

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a 3D artist, my primary focus lies in creating scenic environments and props. I firmly believe that a well-crafted set and prop can captivate the audience and immerse them in the story. Keeping this in mind, I work as an environment artist within our team. Alongside completing my studies, we have actively participated in the Global Game Jam for three consecutive years, earning the Best Art Award in Savannah twice. This time-bound competition has taught me the value of starting early to ensure timely and secure project delivery.

Moreover, collaborating within teams has highlighted the importance of fostering productivity and seamless coordination. It’s crucial to make your teammates feel supported and facilitate their work, rather than relying on others to pick up the pieces. By prioritizing a smooth workflow and being a reliable contributor, you can maximize the potential of your team’s collective efforts.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first one I recommend is the Northside Trail, which is about 1 mile and takes you through Tanyard Creek Park and enjoys one of the most scenic stretches of road to the Atlanta BeltLine). It’s connected to the city but offers a sense of seclusion, allowing you to switch between the hustle and bustle of the city and the tranquility of the forest at any time. As a side note, the last time I explored this area in the late sunset, I saw a lot of fireflies.

For the food part I always think of a restaurant near the High Museum of Art, Divan Restaurant & Bar, which offers Mediterranean and Persian cuisine, fascinating art and mysterious music while you dine.

Atlanta’s High Museum of Art is also a must-visit. Thousands of works of art and sun-drenched lawns await you.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
“I believe the animated film ‘Turning Red,’ produced by Pixar Animation Studios, resonated with me. Growing up as an only child in China during the 1990s, my parents showered me with undivided attention and care, much like the movie’s protagonist. While I appreciate their well-meaning intentions to ensure my happiness, I yearned to forge my own path and embrace my individuality. I possess a distinct worldview, not one solely shaped by my parents’ beliefs. This brings to mind a quote that has always empowered me, although its exact origin eludes me: ‘Make it clear that your life is not a sequel to your parents, not a prequel to your children, and not an extra chapter to your friends; you have your own colorful and unique script!'”
