We had the good fortune of connecting with Takeya Glenn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Takeya, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Many people pursue artistic or creative careers because I have a passion for creating and expressing myself through various mediums such as music, art, and writing but my favorite is beauty. I have been drawn to this form of expression from a young age and have developed my skills and talents over time.

I fully pursued my career because I want to make a positive impact on society or to bring joy and inspiration to others through my work and cosmetics business. I see art as a powerful means of communication and a way to address social or political issues but with a twist and that’s through beauty. Still, also being attracted to the freedom and flexibility that being a makeup artist and beauty business offer, allowing me to work on my terms and to pursue my passions while earning a living.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Starting and growing a business is a challenging but rewarding endeavor. To set yourself apart from others, it’s important to have a unique value proposition that distinguishes my business from competitors. To get to where I wanted to be in my business, I knew it was important to have a clear vision and a solid plan. This includes defining my target market, identifying my business goals, and creating a strategy for achieving those goals. It was also important to be open to feedback and constructive criticism.

I knew growing a business was rarely easy and still 4 years in it gets tough, but it’s important to be prepared for challenges and setbacks. Persistence, determination, and a willingness to learn and adapt are essential qualities for any successful entrepreneur. It was VERY important to be flexible and to be willing to pivot or adjust my strategy if something wasn’t working.

Ultimately, what sets my business apart is its ability to create value for its customers and to make a positive impact on the world. By staying focused on my goals and being committed to delivering exceptional products or services, I created a successful and fulfilling business. Don’t forget to shop and book Beautybrat Co!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

To my mommy Sondra Brown Glenn,

Although you are no longer with us in body, your spirit and your legacy continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to know you. As your child, you have left an indelible mark on my life, and I will always be grateful for the love and guidance you provided.

Your creative spirit and entrepreneurial drive as a makeup artist and business owner inspired me to pursue my own passions and to work hard to achieve my goals. You showed me what it meant to be dedicated, persistent, and to put your heart and soul into everything you do.

I remember how you taught me to find beauty in the world around us and to appreciate the small things in life. Your positivity and unwavering belief in my abilities gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams, and for that, I will always be grateful. Although I miss you dearly, I take comfort in knowing that your legacy lives on through the lives you touched and the work you accomplished. Thank you for being my mother, my mentor, and my friend. I love you always.

With love and admiration,
Takeya Glenn
