We had the good fortune of connecting with Carl White III and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carl, how do you think about risk?
One of the main benefits I’ve come across from taking risks is that it allowed me to step outside my comfort zones and push myself to achieve new goals. When I take on new challenges, I’m forced to develop new skills and strategies that I may not have otherwise learned. This not only helps with my overall confidence and self-esteem.

Taking risks have also led to new opportunities and experiences that I may not have otherwise had. For example, starting a new business lead me to the creation of a new product that can benefit others, while pursuing a new career path this had led to new connections and experiences that have enhanced my personal and professional life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Movespot is an innovative mobile app that combines social networking, & making “moves” into one platform! We allow our users to share their day-to-day moves while expressing themselves socially. Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, has mentioned in an interview with CNN that it is unhealthy for people to stay bootstrapped onto their phones for the majority of the day. Studies show that people who overuse their electronic devices encounter depression & anxiety more often. This is where Movespot comes into the picture.

What is Movespot’s company mission?
Our Mission is to help our users’ mental health needs by providing an authentic platform that enables them to receive the much-needed real life social interaction. We encourage our users to stay on the move while still being able to enjoy our in-app features. We are currently rated 5/5 stars on the App Store. Not only that, but we have recently started partnerships with Microsoft, Amazon & IBM.

How did the idea of Movespot first come about?
One day, I was working out in Planet Fitness & recognized that everyone in the gym was using their phones instead of exercising, which gave me a spark for an idea. Later on that day when I got back home I immediately started on a PowerPoint brainstorming different ideas and features. After doing the proper research and figuring out how development worked, that’s how things began.

How did the idea to development process work?
At first, I thought things were as simple as telling developers what I wanted and thought that they could make the app from scratch. Although I quickly found out that’s not how things work. After that, I began researching market trends to see exactly how I wanted to create the app. I then had to create a wireframe with Movespot Chief Technology Officer Seth Asra. This is similar to a blueprint for a house. It instructs developers on the functions of the application. After this process there was a period of coding, testing, and searching for bugs within the app to make sure everything was working fluently. Next, we had to test the app among our close friends to get feedback on how it worked on other devices. The final phases were going through Beta testing and then eventually releasing the product onto the App Store.

What makes Movespot different?
The current culture of social media posting and scrolling all day is the norm. We’ve gotten away from the need for face to face social interaction. As humans, we are naturally built to interact, this is our livelihood and makes us who we are. Our ability to interact and communicate with one another, and Movespot’s focus is to increase that face to face interaction while still keeping social features that we as a people have grown so accustomed to. With features like the Time Map, a time distance visualizer, we encourage our users to connect with other Movers in their area and create those relationships. It’s no reason somebody should have thousands of followers and nothing to do, or nobody to hang out with on the weekend.

Was there any adversity faced when creating the app?
Yes, we did face adversity, from having to navigate from multiple development teams. Some of them couldn’t handle making an app as big as Movespot. So we had to search for the right team to help build the platform. We believe that all of our hard work will pay off as we continue to grow.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
They should definitely try Ponce City market. There are a lot of restaurants to try and a beautiful setting to walk in through the park while enjoying nature in peace.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shout out God, & infinite intelligence. I’d also like to shout out New York Times best-selling book Hustle Harder, written by 50 Cent. Which dropped some gems that I’ve been utilizing towards growing my business.
