We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie Nadeen and Shimeika Holness and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalie Nadeen and Shimeika Holness, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?

Natalie: Over the past few years, my perspective on work-life balance has evolved significantly. As my priorities changed and I grew older, I learned how to manage my workload and prioritize myself. Although I was used to being a full-time student and working part-time, I now work in my field, and I’ve come to realize that self-care and spending time with friends and family are just as important. If I’m not at my best, I’m no good to anyone, including myself.  My time of relaxation and rejuvenation while having fun includes spending time with my friend Shimeika while discussing our favourite show on our podcast.

Shimeika: My work-life balance has changed over time; with me being a mom, going to work, starting my skincare line, and now going back to school and starting this podcast, I have had to change over the years. Being a mom is always a top priority for me, but over the years, I have realized that I wanted more, and that is why I am back in school, to better myself. Starting this podcast is one of my zen moments. It allows me to unwind and be free with my girl Natalie.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Although I (Natalie) work in public relations and Shimeika is a business owner, we are both media enthusiasts and podcasters. As hosts of Married to Medicine: The Rundown, what sets us apart is that we focus solely on Bravo’s Married to Medicine: Atlanta, which many other Bravo fan accounts don’t do. In doing so, we bring two unique, honest, and entertaining perspectives. We are most proud of our engagement with the individuals from the show and the fans commenting on our posts via social media. The interactions with like-minded fans let us know that we are on the right path because of the attention garnered on our posts. Although we sometimes have different perspectives, we still manage to get our points across effectively.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If our friends were to visit us, we would take them to some well-known tourist sites and our favourite hang-out spots in Downtown Toronto. We would take our friends to dine at some of our favourite restaurants, including Sugar Kane, an infusion of Caribbean and Cajun food. We would also engage in fun activities like making our own lipstick in the Beauty Lab, touring the Museum of Illusions, and renting a light-up Kayak to ride on the water at night. There is also My Dope Tee, where you can take photos and get them printed on anything you’d like. Lastly, we could not let them return home without visiting the iconic CN Tower and riding up to the top to walk on the glass floor.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

Natalie: There are many people I would love to shout out, but the first that comes to mind are my mom and my long-time friend/mentor, Denise Smith.
My mom has been a great support system, always encouraging me to go after my goals, regardless of what it is. With regards to Denise, she has seen my growth professionally and creatively since I was 17 years old. Even when I felt like I wanted to give up and quit, she motivated me to continue and keep trying because “you never know where it could lead you.” I’m happy I listened because I wouldn’t be doing this podcast with Shimeika and talking with you all from Shoutout Atlanta.

Shimeika: For me, I am going to shout out my son, Micah. Anytime I complete anything in life, he is always there to tell me how proud he is. When I had the launch of my skincare line, he couldn’t stop smiling and letting me know how proud he was. Seeing his smile is more than enough for me.
