We had the good fortune of connecting with Zhuwei Lu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zhuwei, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Most of the time when I have a rest, I feel happy because I finally have time to myself. However, when I’m making jewelry, I also immerse myself in it, and I enjoy it during that time.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think the special session of my work is the technique of electroforming. Although you can find many tutorials on the Internet to teach you how to do electroforming, mine is definitely different from theirs in essence. I’ve been working on this technology for maybe four years. Others may have it as a hobby, but I have it as my style. I have really experienced a lot in the past four years, and I have to keep experimenting to get the best results. Fortunately, my jewelry does have its own style.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely recommend Savannah because I spent four years here, I belong to Savannah and I love it. Here, you can take a walk on the river street in your free time, where there is the moon river in Audrey Hepburn’s song. If you want to enjoy the sea breeze, drive to Tybee island, where there is coastline scenery. If you want to feel the scene from the movie, go to Forsyth Park, where Forrest Gump once visited.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am afraid there are many people and things that I want to shoutout here. Jewelry design is not a simple profession, so the first people I want to shout out to are my parents, who wholeheartedly support me in studying this profession. And my professors have done a lot to take me from knowing nothing about jewelry to be an expert.
