We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Traci Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Traci, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I grew frustrated with the landscape on social media in the mental health and finance spaces. I wanted to provide easily understood factual information, especially for people who have long been excluded from these conversations. I wanted access for all to improve their mental, emotional, and financial wellbeing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about.
In comparison to most therapists, I am unique because of my combination of specialities. I am a clinical psychologist with expertise in child, adolescent, and family psychology. I am also credentialed as a financial therapist. I use this combination to help families live healthier lives, emotionally, mentally, as well as financially. By choosing to have a social media presence, I present as a unique face, and my platform allows me to share what I know with others.I’m only a couple years into my time in the finance world and I am excited about where this combination of skills will lead. I am also excited to be able to continue providing people with information that can help them improve the quality of their lives.
How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
My professional journey started at age 12 when I read One Child by Torey Hayden and decided I wanted to be a child psychologist. It was a difficult, long journey to becoming licensed as a psychologist 19 years later. But my ultimate goal allowed me to keep my eyes on the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way.
I’ve learned that life truly is a journey and to accept that despite its twists, turns, and bumps, I will end up exactly where I should be.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My brand serves to support the emotional, mental, and financial health of families. I see how those three aspects are interconnected and I recognize how many struggle with issues in those areas.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Dining: We’d have brunch at South City Kitchen, Canoe, or West Egg Cafe. They’re definitely going to have to try chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, as well as lemon pepper wings (wet, of course). For lunch, we’d visit the food hall at Ponce City Market, Krog Street Market, Politan Row, or Chattahoochee Food Works. For dinner with a view, we’d go to 9 Mile Station or the Sun Dial. Activities: We’d visit Puttshack for mini golf, and go hiking to one of the many waterfalls in the north GA mountains. We’d visit a nearby winery for a tour. Hopefully they visit on the week of High Frequency Fridays at the High Museum. A walk on the beltline is a must, searching for Tiny Doors.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be where I am without the family members and friends who supported me. I truly believe “it takes a village” because I have seen it first hand.
