We had the good fortune of connecting with Dianne Reich and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dianne, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
You have to love what you do! Growing herbs was the start of my passion for essential oils. Lavender, Rosemary, Basil, Oregano and Thyme have always been a part of my herb garden. Taking a leaf and rubbing it in my palms, then cupping around my nose inhaling the aroma was and still is a pleasure.
Eventually my interest was peaked in learning more about essential oils. Essential oils are basically plant extracts. They’re made by steaming or pressing various parts of a plant (flowers, bark, leaves or fruit) to capture the compounds that produce fragrance. It can take several pounds of a plant to produce a single bottle of essential oil.
The added bonus was realizing how essential oils could benefit me aromatically and topically! Creating rollers, lotions, balms, salves and sprays for my family and friends started as a hobby. It wasn’t long before a few friends and family said you need to start a business. Essential Oily Home was born. The most rewarding part is knowing how much my essential oil blends are helping others by supporting them.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I take pride in every product I create from choosing quality essential oils and carriers that are all natural. As orders come in, they are made individually which means they are not stock piled on shelves waiting to be purchased. It’s important to me as it should be for my customers that their products are created in a smoke free, animal free and sanitized work shop.
As I study for my aromatherapy certification, I’ve learned and continue to learn every day so I can educate my customers on the use and safety of essential oil blends.
There’s a saying, “treat those how you want to be treated”. I strive to reach that goal with my products. I want you to be extremely satisfied with my products and customer service.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Syracuse NY itinerary would include the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, the Carrier Dome, a great selection of museums including the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science and Technology, Everson Museum of Art, Erie Canal Museum and the Salt Museum. Fine dining at the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. Enjoy the fresh air at Beaver Lake Nature Center. Take in a show at the Syracuse Stage. Syracuse NY is packed with fun outings! Even though it’s not New York City, upstate Syracuse is appealing for those wanting to get away from the actual urban hubbub, and enjoy a little of the super-charming side of another part of NY.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m thankful to everyone who has supported me. A special thank you goes out to Cindy VanHouten and Sherry Taylor who encouraged me to follow my dreams. Most of all, I thank my husband, Brian, for his support, encouragement and making a beautiful work shop for me to create my products in.
