How did you come up with the idea for your business?

It takes a lot more than an idea to build a business, but there can’t be a business without the idea. So we asked folks who’ve built wonderful businesses to tell us about how they came up with the idea in the first place.

The ButterSoft Essentials brand wasn’t exactly intentional. So I guess we can say that the idea for my business stemmed from numerous inspirations. Growing up, I always preferred to use natural products. In April 2018, I enrolled in a local Soap Making class, which then sparked my interest in learning how to make my own natural body butters. If you would have asked me 2 years ago if I wanted to be an entrepreneur, I would have said no! Owning my own business never appealed to me until I tapped in to my creative. I’ve always been artistic and creative since I was a child, but it was always looked at as a random act. It wasn’t until Mother’s Day of 2021, during the pandemic, when I tapped in to my talent and realized that I could do much more with it. Read more>>

I was laid off in May 2021 from the position I held with a big international company. I gave a lot of myself to the position and being let go was a blow to my ego. Honestly, the lay-off was a blessing. My health all around needed attention. My children needed me to be more present. Read more>>

I’ve always been an entrepreneur at heart. I had a business in the late 90’s as a Certified Childbirth Instructor. I taught childbirth classes to women who were high-risk pregnancies and on bedrest because they were unable to go to traditional classes that were, at the time, held at the hospital. Read more>>
